Money Savers Arms

Last ooorders!… We’re sorry but for now, due to resources, we need to close the Money Savers Arms including Discussion Time.

It’s not easy to write this. We love the forum, but we also have a job to do to protect it, our users and MoneySavingExpert, and at the moment, with all our resources focused on Coronavirus information, and all the team at home, we don’t feel we have the resources to do a good enough job.

For four months, we’ve been struggling to cope with the huge volumes of messages we’ve been getting from Forumites – many of whom are in desperate and dire straits with their finances. The team have been working all hours to try and keep on top of it. At first we thought it’d be a short sharp spike, but it isn’t, it’s continuing, so we have had some difficult choices to make about prioritisation.

Unfortunately in, and likely because of, these stressful times, the Forum team have also been receiving an increasing number of complaints about posts made on the Money Savers Arms and Discussion Time. The team have done what they can to try and walk the tightrope of balancing all the various interests, but for now we need to draw a line under this and temporarily close this Board, so we can keep the key, MoneySaving boards – where people are supporting each other through this crisis - running smoothly.

We know this board is important to you, but as the MSE stance has been forbearance throughout this crisis, now we ask that of you. We’re sorry. Of course you can post on other boards, but we’d ask you to stick to the subjects of those boards, and not use them as a surrogate Money Savers Arms or Discussion Time. And as always please be kind and friendly to each other, especially any newbies.

Thanks
MSE Forum Team

Do they and the average score influence your decision whether to watch it or not?

I do, and they do.

    Yes / no / sometimes
I usually look at rotten tomatoes if I'm going to look at scores, but I've seen films I've enjoyed that had bad reviews, and totally carp films that people were ecstatic about.

I do read ratings figures usually out of curiosity, not always reviews, but quite often I prefer to make my own mind up. I've really enjoyed some movies with low ratings.
New forum. New sig. Yes I still need to lose 2 stone!

I don't read the reviews but I do sometimes look at the score. If it's a film I've not heard of but I'm considering watching it the IMDB score can give me an idea of if it's worth watching or not.

As others have pointed out it's not foolproof though. There are some films with low scores I've enjoyed and some with high scores I haven't.

I don't look before, but I'll sometimes look afterwards to see if I agree with the score.

IMDB's appeal for me went down quite a lot when they removed the forums. You could find some interesting discussions on a film you had just watched there.

Not before & not usually the reviews - more during - "isn't she from 'such & such'?"

Sometimes after "did you know" stuff relating to the weapons, (house of menfolk.) It makes Star Wars (the storm trooper guns "are just Sterlings with a bit of nonsense around the muzzle") etc a bit difficult to relax & enjoy.
As for war films - even in a not-vital atmosphere shot - "that chap on the right's got the wrong puttees" - I'm probably not watching it more sharing a room with it but sometimes I could bean my beloved with a mallet.

I tend to use amazon as a guage to be honest.

But like jackmydad, I've liked low rated films before and disliked high rated ones.

If the synopsis makes me curious, I will watch the first 10 mins then decide if I want to carry on or not.

I take notice of reviews if i come across them but dont really seek them out. Its unlikely to be that website either.
