Virgin to SEE - Cashback?

Hi everyone,

Having recently agreed a new bundle with Virgin (circa £30/month) I get a letter telling me there will be a £3 increase, so nearly 10% rise.

As such I want to cancel the contract (as per terms & Conditions.)

I want to transfer to SSE Broadband and on quidco can get a decent cash back.

How do I go about this, do I cancel with Virgin then contact SSE or get SSE to manage this (they advertise that they can manage a switch but I am concerned that I am in contract (SSE will not know about the 30 day stipulation)?


Any advice?

and sorry of this is a bit rambiling!

    Then you have to inform the ISP VM that you want to cancel . You tell them you are cancelling penalty free under OFCOM rules re price increase in contract .


    A straight forward ISP swap is not a cancelation under the penalty free clause .

    Ring VM and tell them you wish to leave due to the rise
    tell them the SSE price, see if they can match
    If they can't tell them you wish to leave.


    If you want to take the VM Tel number with you, you need to inform VM


    Then sign up with SSE without delay (picking an install date in about 3 weeks time) to allow 1 week of BB with both in case of issues.


    Are you sure you don't need to pay SSE a line connection fee?

    There is a £30 set up. So would take 10 months to see any benefit but there is a 12 months fixed price.

    I will call Virgin and see what they come back with.

    So if SSE has a 12 month minimum term, and on month 13 the price rises? it's hardly worth it apart from the cash back.

    (your just getting 2 months cheaper )

    SSE has a bad reputation for throttling speed a few years ago.
    Not so many complaints recently.
