Just received from Danske Bank:-

We’ve been listening to your thoughts on how we do things here at Danske Bank, and are making some changes to our Danske Cash Reward account which we hope you’ll like.



We’ve made it easier to get your monthly
£7 cash reward



We’ve removed one of the three conditions you previously needed to meet to get your monthly reward. You no longer need to pay three Direct Debits out of your account in the previous month. Now you only need to do two things each month for the reward:



1. pay in at least £1,200,

2. log on to eBanking, Mobile Banking or Tablet Banking at least once.

Changes apply from 1 September.

The monthly reward is £7, less account fee of £2, making net reward of £5. This should be an easy "earn" with the removal of the DD requirement.

For those outwith NI, you can open the account by phone, provided you can be identified electronically.

    Thanks for posting with this info. Never thought about opening a Danske account. For £60/year reward it makes good sense...:)

    It was flagged for its reward by MSE earlier in the year... got surprisingly little (none IIRC) discussion here for no reason I'm aware of.

    Their policy change may be related to:

    "There is an issue with Direct Debits today which means that some customers have seen Direct Debits come out of their account today instead of Monday. If you are affected by this issue and it causes financial difficulties, please contact us on 0345 600 2882 so we can help you. We are sorry for any inconvenience."

    I'm curious if anyone has had any luck opening one while living in mainland UK? Do they only verify ID electronically, or do they use a do a hard search? I've been thinking about account this for a while, but didn't want to have to deal with a trip to NI if they couldn't verify me :rotfl:

    First advisor I spoke to today said I could not open a Reward account unless I already banked with Danske or lived in N/Ireland. So I found a Danske savings account I could open and rang them back. I spoke to a different advisor this time. I asked whether if I opened a savings account, would that make me eligible for the Reward account, as I live in London England? He said the previous advisor was wrong and that I did not need to open a savings account first. He said the only prerequisite was that I passed electronic ID search with Experian. I gave him my personal details and he got confirmation of my ID from Experian (a 'soft' search).

    Now that was done, I needed to make a telephone appointment for next week, as it takes about 30 minutes, for the official application to be processed. It is during the application interview, that a 'hard' search is made on your credit file.

    So, I had a 25-minute telephone interview and 'hard' search this morning. The advisor confirmed the only criteria to get the reward is the £1200/month pay-in and to log onto mobile banking at least once a month.

    Everything is good to go. They now send me an information pack and letters which I have to sign and return. Once they receive those, the account will be formally open.

    All-in-all, a relatively smooth account opening process and great way to earn £60 reward/year!! :)

    I came across them looking for something that would support Garmin Pay

    But the website seems to imply you need to be in N.I. so I didn't look any further. If thats not the case, I may well apply for their credit card.

    I think all the major banks act as conduits for some kind of money laundering or other criminal activity. It is just whether they get caught or not...


    Example from the Independent:
    HSBC, Barclays, RBS and Coutts among those alleged to have transferred hundreds of millions of pounds of cash thought to be linked to criminals and corrupt officials

    • 102 page A4 book on "Customer Package Documentation"
    • 20 page pamphlet on "Fees and service charges explained"
    • 13 page pamphlet on "Fees and charges explained - foreign payments
    • 24 page pamphlet on "Interest rates"
    • 5 page A4 "FSCS Depositor Information Sheet
    • 5 page A4 "Customer Agreement" which I must read, sign and return

    Sounds like an impressive mailing!! I trust you will, er, read it all...

    But is that all there is, is everything sorted as soon as you send the Customer Agreement back? Because if so it's still a (relatively) painless account opening, judging by your earlier post, and quick too.

    If that's all there is to it I might open one too. Halifax's £2 offering is fairly rubbish in comparison.
