Ill on Holiday and Caught Out by Exchange Rate Changes

1 Post
Recently been on holiday and my little girl was ill and hospitalised in Turkey.
We had booked various excursions early in the holiday and paid for them on a credit card. These had to be cancelled and were eventually refunded, by the time the refund came onto my credit card (9 days later) the exchange rate had crashed in Turkey and we are now about £45 out of pocket.
Is this just a case of bad luck or can anyone suggest a way to ensure we are not penalised because of events outside of our control?

I can't see the card lender giving you anything for this.
