Despite having a ADT burglar alarm installed, I am finding that it does not reduce the cost of my home insurance. I.e. the quotes are the same whether I say yes or no to the burglar alarm questions.

Bearing this in mind, I don't think its worth telling the insurer about the alarm as it isn't improving the price and if I ever forget to turn the alarm on and then get burgled, then they may reject my claim. But is there any downside risk if I don't tell the insurer about the alarm?

Hard to say. In theory if you don't tell them then you shouldn't have to use it all the time. However check to see if in the T&C's there is a phrase along the lines of '..all security measures must be in place...'. Alternatively email them and get a written reply.

Alarm companies say you get an insurance discount as a selling point but you rarely do and if so then its around 5%.
