Why do all comparison websites insist on showing you what your projected annual savings will be with each supplier? This is meaningless. The projected 'savings' rarely materialise.
I would rather know how much per unit and how much the daily standing charge is going to be; I can then do the sums. The one thing that the suppliers and, seemingly, the comparison sites are reluctant to do is to give these simple figures. I find I have to work through several web pages to find the information. Not the 'clear' pricing system we were promised years ago by some now forgotten energy minister!

As per identical posts those are the rules they have to work under .
  • Thanks, JJ. I'm new here so I hadn't seen previous posts. However, if those are the rules then it makes me wonder who made them.....and who lobbied for them!?

Ofgem made it a licence condition for suppliers and comparison sites that operate under its Confidence Code. Sites such as MSE CEC and theenergyshop.com offer both the Ofgem calculation and a more accurate 12 month tariff by tariff comparison.

By all means try your luck with [email protected] but don't be surprised if you get a kick back. They came up with the methodology and like all good regulators they don't like to be told that they have got it wrong. In fairness, the comparison is only flawed for consumers on fixed contracts with less than 12 months to run. It is right for the 70% who have never switched.

Just ignore the savings bit then. Input your expected use and the comparison site will line them up in price order, you don't really need to know the unit price and sc as there are other variables to consider. All the sites will give the rates at the click of a button.
