This will affect a lot more than those who booked directly with Low Cost Holidays. Many travel agents, both on line and high street were buying accommodation from Low Cost Beds and then adding flights. Anyone due to travel should check their documentation and see if there is any paperwork with a reference to Low Cost Holidays or Beds. If there is contact your agent immediately
Although many people thought it was a British company it wasn't, it traded out of Majorca for the last 2.5 years and did not hold an ATOL licence. They claim to have a licence to sell packages from the Majorcan government but many believe that the Majorcan government have insufficient experience to deal with this failure. Only time will tell but the link from their website to the Majorcan financial protection scheme takes you to the main government website, so good luck with that!
A report I heard on the radio suggested that the ATOL equivalent is the Spanish national scheme - I don't see why there would be a Majorcan scheme at all, it would be like the Isle of Wight having it's own scheme.
My brother was due to go to turkey in couple weeks and booked with low cost but flights with Thomas Cook. He can't get onto any link it gives on website and he didn't pay hol with credit card so hasn't got the money to fork out for another hotel. Does any one have any advice I can give him?
Big thanks to all who contribute to the forums. Be lucky everyone and be safe!
If he has his tickets to fly, he should be able to fly as planned. The only good news is that hotels in Turkey have plenty of space, he needs to contact the hotel, confirm a booking and then pay again. If he booked everything as a package he should have a claim against the Majorcan financial protection scheme, each area in Spain runs its own scheme for companies based there, there are 18 I think but most of us in the UK travel industry worry that the scheme has never been tested and may not work quite as well as it should.
If he used a debit card, contact the bank that issued it and see if they can arrange a chargeback against Low Cost, not as good as a credit card but maybe better than nothing
He booked everything separately (on debit card) but his flights are still valid. I've just spoken to him and he contacted Yorkshire bank who confirms he should be covered for other losses and he has to ring the bank tomorrow.

Skegness looks safe at the moment and the currency fluctuations should not be to much of a problem.
If accommodation is full try Mablethorpe or Sutton on sea

And no excess luggage fees for all those extra jumpers and coats as well, ideal.
