utility providers

I see that when I was with EON they reported my payments to CRAs but currently I am with Npower and they don't. I assume the more good payment recorded on my file the better for my score. Is there a database somewhere that shows which companies do report payments to CRAs? If so this might be a consideration when switching all sorts of accounts from insurance to communications.

I think there is a thread detailing which CRAs are used by which companies. I forget the exact title. It's something like "who really uses which agencies".
Your strategy should be to minimise CRA reporting by non-lenders such as utility providers and mobile phone operators. To that end, you might consider EDF and Sky. Also write to the water company telling them you do not consent to them reporting your account to the CRAs. Why do this? Because these blighters are the world's worst for shafting your ability to get credit due to mistaken and malicious reporting. Browse this forum to see some of the dreadful cases brought about by companies that report.
There is no central system that I am aware of, it is normally determined by the T & C's of the contract with that energy supplier. Payments that are up to date would be positive for your credit file, but a lack of information - in this case, no details of late or up to date payments - is unlikely to be negative.

Not sure how UTD it is, though.
Regarding Npower, they do report customer accounts and are one of the worst offenders for malicious reporting. If they're not reporting your account it will be due to their continuing massive incompetence which is reaching criminal levels.
Just running your finances responsibly is all you need to do in order to get lenders to view you favourably.
I can confirm that nPower do report their credit account customers to at least one of the CRA's as do the majority (all?) of energy suppliers.
But remember there is more than one CRA, and not all creditors report to all CRAs.
Undoubtedly. Still, at least they haven't (yet) shafted you with erroneous, malicious, data.
Afternoon 24418507 and welcome to the Forums.
Just thought I'd confirm. Every month we share payment information from our residential customer accounts with the Credit Reference Agency, Equifax. There are more details about how we use personal data on our website as well as in the terms and conditions for your old account.
Hope this is of interest.

I know we spoke about this on another thread Sparky111 but for anyone else interested, it's at the link below.
