Private land parking fine

Hello,
I have had a lovely parking fine notice from Parking Eye. And I want to know if I can appeal or if it's too late. A brief history of events without dates.
Got the fine, took time to receive.
Spoke to company to ask them to put on hold as I had only just received the letter (as I don't live at address all the time, am away in Europe a lot and landlady didn't pass on letter quickly) they gave me 14 days.
Appeal sent.
Next letter I have been forwarded from landlady is just demanding payment, they said (Parking Eye) that they sent one on previously but we didn't receive this. I spoke to them recently and they have suggested that I appeal to them to send out another letter with a verification code so I can appeal.
Spoke to POPLA and they have said that if the reply to the appeal was issued previously and I am now outside the 28 days from receipt of appeal I have a cat in hell's chance of getting it quashed.
Interestingly the original fine doesn't state what I did wrong, the vehicle was parked in a private car park, where you would think that would be OK, but the signs giving instruction were very badly placed one facing the exit (?!) very unclear, and no ticket machines around.
My question is, are there definitely timescales for appeal, if it is outside of appeal letter reply they said they sent am I stuffed?
Should I pay? Bearing in mind it's not my address and I work all over Europe and am not in the UK for inordinate amounts of time. I don't want any bad debts registered against her address, it's too risky and not right.
Many thanks in anticipation of all your worldly knowledge and no doubt costly experience!

Complain to the BPA using the email address for Steve Clark in post #6 of the newbies thread.
When you sent an appeal did you imply who was driving? Hope not as you have another option if you DIDN'T say who was driving (the keeper at xx address names the driver at yy address...think about it...could even be an address abroad!). DO NOT SAY HERE WHO WAS DRIVING, WE DON'T WANT TO KNOW. STOP, DO NOT SAY IT!
Please edit your first post - too much information about who was driving.

Private Parking ticket? check the 2 sticky threads by coupon-mad and crabman in the Parking Tickets, Fines & Parking Board forum for the latest advice or maybe try pepipoo or C.A.G. or legal beagles forums if you need legal advice as well because this parking forum is not about debt collectors or legal matters per se
The newbies thread is near the top. My signature tells you where to click or you can use the Forum Jump button, bottom right, to get back 'home' to page one where you then see the top threads. They were there all the time when you hit that 'new thread' button and the FAQs should have been read first.
When you read the newbies thread you will see that, yes, PE can and do issue court claims. Hence why you need to think hard about who was driving IF you've not already said.

I don't have a copy of the appeal I sent as I didn't know you had to do a screen shot.
So, can I just copy and paste this letter then and send it off to them, regardless of timings?
If you did admit you were driving you could send PE your new address abroad as well. That would stop them from being able to issue a MCOL in due course, as you'd be out of jurisdiction for the British courts unless you are in fact based in England.
Have you got a receipt if this was a retail park?

PE cancel when they see a person was a shopper, with proof of purchase over a secret 'floor limit' of £30.

That's all fabulous advice once again and quite clear. I don't have a receipt no, not in this case.
I have an update; I actually phoned the hotel that issued the notice and asked them to cancel it and they agreed!
But I have certainly now read a lot and if it happens again I know how more now how to deal with it. There is a lot of knowledge on here which is fab.
Thanks to everyone who replied. Good outcome this time, with a slight twist.
: )
Successful complaints about private parking tickets - how to get them cancelled!
Your case now joins that sticky thread - I will add a link so people can read about your success. Make sure you get it in writing that it's cancelled - I would email Parking Eye to tell them the Hotel have cancelled it and so to get lost and go swivel:
