Nothing to do with comping but I only really post in the comping sections.

Just had an email from MSE saying somebody has tried to log on as me but failed after 5 attempts. Given I'm already logged on is somebody trying to get on the boards as me? If so why?

The email gave an IP address; would I be able to trace who was attempting to log on with this?

Now feeling a bit paranoid...

http://www.geobytes.com/iplocator.htm to find out where the IP address is located. Could be an idea to change your password. Even if they/him/her have tried and failed they could try again. Then again it could be a mistake on MSE part, still better to be safe than sorry as they say.

    Thank you

Would MSE know if it was the IP address of another member or ex member of the forum?

I think they can narrow it down if they have the will.

Given the troll activity that we have seen at times on here I am not sure of the strength of that will.

    Maybe enquire via: [email protected]

    Hope you get it sorted.

It was the timing really, given it was yesterday a thread and possibly a new(old) member were removed after I had a slight altercation with them.

Stupid idea, MB, but you may also want to check it's not your IP address... Could be something weird with the MSE system...

The thread has now gone but it was somebody who is suspended coming back with another account.

If they had posted or registered under that IP then it is possible to match against other user accounts.

And just how much use is knowing the user of a particular dynamic IP address at some point in the (possibly distant) past?
