Hi

In September I purchased an iPhone 5s, on a 4g contract with Vodafone in the Cambridge store. When I purchased I knew Cambridge didn't yet have 4g, but I was told previously in the store when investigating phones it would arrive Jan 2014. I was debating between sticking with Vodafone or switching to EE, thinking it was only a short time to 4g arriving I decided to stay with Vodafone, given the double data offer which was ending but I would make use of come January.

Just after christmas when visiting relatives in Lincoln, I thought I'd ask in the Lincoln store if they knew the date, he responded he'd seen something that morning to say it had been launched in Cambridge! Excellent I think, so when I get back to work on the Monday, I expect to have 4g, I don't, and when I check on the website no 4g coverage.

Also during this time, normal coverage (2g/3g) has been getting worse at my place of work, at my home address data is now pretty much non existent. I've tried calling Vodafone a couple of times to no avail, first time I was told to try several things with no improvement. The second time, I get told Cambridge has 4g, when I questioned this she said everywhere has it now.... Obviously completely wrong.

My questions are, has anyone else noticed a deterioration in signal strength. And I guess quite a few people have been promised 4g by stores and call centres.

I just feel I'm paying what is alot of money, for something promised falsely, and now even normal signal isn't great.... Yet, there doesn't seem to be any comeback possible.

Sorry for the long post!

I know, thing is they said Jan 14 for rollout, although I don't have any proof.

Reading forums, it seems all to common that store sales staff will lie to gain sales, when it doesn't do the reputation of Vodafone as a whole and good in the long term. Ok, sales staff lie, but when calling the company themselves, they say 4g is available (must be recorded), they fail to acknowledge the reception problems, the 'system' says reception in that area is fine, so it must be.

Because they won't acknowledge issues and attempt to solve all trust is gone, so you leave the company never to return....in the long run for them not a good thing.

Yes, Sales staff lie. You could walk into almost any phone shop in the country and ask a direct question regarding coverage etc and be told a complete pack of BS.

As for vodafone and coverage issues you are flogging a dead horse trying to get anything from support. I was without coverage (totally) for 3 weeks. I kept phoning/using online chat to get an update of when it would be fixed and was generally told more lies. At one point i was told there were no coverage problems and the local transmitter was working perfectly when the fault was actually recorded on their own web based fault tracking for anyone to see. I actually sent a copy of that webchat to complaints asking why vodafone staff routinely lie to customers. Again i was just fobbed off.

In short. Vodafone lie, they lie then they lie again. Dont trust them, record all conversations with them.

    Hi apn70,

Thanks for making me aware of your concerns.

Having checked our online coverage checker, I'm afraid 4G won't be available in Cambridge within the next 3 months. However, once more information is available on when 4G will be launched in your area, the coverage checker will be updated. Please accept my apologies for the incorrect information previously given.

In regard to why you're experiencing a deterioration with the 2G and 3G network, could you email me with your details via the link in our profile here so I can get this looked into further?

All you need to do is copy and paste the link into your web browser and it'll take you to the Contact us form on our website. To make sure it reaches me, quote the code WRT135 - MSE in the subject line.

Once sent, you'll receive an automated reply with a reference number. Post back with this and I’ll check I've received it.

Coverage may get better in 2014?
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-26854708

Quote; "Vodafone has said it will create 1,400 jobs by opening 150 new shops in 2014. The mobile phone company's investment in the UK will reach £1bn in 2014... the money would partly be spent on boosting its indoor and outdoor coverage and taking 2G, 3G and 4G services to 98% of the UK"

    Hope so.

This, Vodafone also told me a complete pack of lies when it came to 4G connection in my area. Their website shows that I'm in a strong 4G area since November - however when I call them and challenge them as to why I still don't have it - they say actually I'm not in an area that is going to get 4G in the near future.

Basically their staff and website are complete fabrications. Don't trust them.
