If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!
Good advice , although if you had a sprinkler going for an hour every day , lawn should have been too wet to walk upon.
My lawn was too large for the sprinkler to cover at one go , so always had to start furthest away from tap , then I could pull the hose gently backwards to the next section to water. You can pull a hose .....lot harder to push one!
My father in law has laid some decking for us and now it is just the grass to do. After you were able to provide the amount of soil needed before, I was wondering if you could advise now that the goalposts have shifted a little bit.
Our garden is now 480cm * 390cm. It has a slope in it that we want to level. At its lowest point it needs to come up 35cm and at its highest 5cm. It's more or less a level slope between the two.
The idea is to buy the topsoil to tidy the place up and then put down the turfs coming in to the autumn so as not to dry them out.
Can you work out how much topsoil I need? Sorry to sound like a maths exam.
Edit: tried to work it out myself. 480 * 390 * 20 (average depth) = 3.744m³ so I need four bags of topsoil? Correct?
Is there anything like sand I could put in at the deepest part to bulk it up a bit rather than buying expensive topsoil?
Get the area level , then think about spreading the expensive top soil .
Using top soil to level a slope is wrong and expensive.
looks like we might have a long period of dry weather , ideal for raking .
I will try to level it out somewhat, get a bit of sand and throw that in to build up a bit of height. Looking online though, it appears to me that one tonne does not equal a cubed metre so either way I reckon I will need the four bags.
Now just to find a wheelbarrow and someone to help me!
You risk exposing sub-soil at one end. To do what you suggest, remove topsoil, level subsoil, put back top soil. Not easy.
You must have a very shallow depth of top soil in your garden
OP starts at 6inchs and go's to nothing , average of three inches ?
No fear of exposing sub soil .
