    Thanks Itismehonest.

No, no natural water source for the pond, so we will have to keep it topped up in summer. Will have to make sure it is deep enough as sadly lost quite a few frogs at our old pond last year (although it was the first time in 14 years) during that long cold spell.

The plan is to stay in the rental while this bungalow is done up. We are very lucky to have the flexibility. But must not get ahead of myself - offer not accepted yet :o
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Frogs, toads & newts I can do by the JCB bucket load :D
Our ponds are quite grotesque with tadpoles. Like writhing masses of black jelly _pale_

Let us know how it goes.

So, I collect DW after her trip to Switzerland, and what has she brought home for me? A horse steak..... speechless-smiley-003.gif

Reminds me of the then topical line in the Panto: " My doctor advised me to watch what I eat, so I've bought two tickets for the Grand National!"

How long ago did your DH apply the glyphosate CTC? It can take a few weeks to show results.

That looks like a tidy sized garden Better Days. ;) Speaking as someone who bought land "with a tatty bungalow attached," I am not sure whether to cross my fingers for you or not! :rotfl:

    Feeling for you, alf x.

Watched our three year olds perform in Puss in Boots at the local theatre tonight. They're both well socialised, outgoing characters, but I'm still taken aback at how one took to singing and dancing with huge enthusiasm and zero inhibitions. Whereas the other was not about to behave as if she were a performing seal for anyone's money.

    Lovely piglets CTC!

Fingers crossed on the bungalow and garden, Better Days!

Poor LIR and Alfie, you're both suffering at the minute. Sending hugs!

The african furniture sounds interesting, I would probably want a good nosey at it if I had your storage space Alf :D

My beans and peas are growing nicely. My mum sent me some sweetcorn plants this week (Monday) from Suffolk, they've not come yet. GRRRRRR! That's pretty shocking, as we're only two counties away. And there was a cheque for me updating her website as well. Still, she told me that their draft wills had never turned up either, and they were only posted from in the town to where they live towards the outskirts!

Been ripped off over a phone, but I'll survive.

My weather station has taken some damage, one of the cups of the anemometer has snapped fully off and it's lost. It took a hit last year when they were pruning the tree but I superglued it and it was holding ok - so I thought. Now I'm debating whether just to get a new anemometer or to have a new weather station as the rain gauge hasn't worked for months.

Started machine knitting again for those crafty amongst you. I won a machine off ebay last week for 22 quid and have done a full service on it. Last night was the first test to see if all the needles are ok, seems to be a promising start.

Anyone I've missed that needs a hug, have one!

And finally... IS THAT A BETTER THREAD TITLE??? :rotfl:

Alf, keep on fighting and get better soon.

Better Days, FWIW our pond is kept high from the downspout of our garage, got fed up of topping up the pond!

Took stock of some of the spring sowings, mostly a poor show. Ruby chard very patchy, climbing beans a washout, broad beans patchy, carrots carp, salads good, cavalo nero very good, courgettes still way off cropping. Of the winter transplants, the rhubarb is fine, the raspberries seem ok, the strawbs are ok but late. Chooks are enjoying the surplus salad leaves!

Blackcurrants, gooseberries, jostaberry and redcurrant look very good but late, pears are patchy but better than last year, thin crop of greengage, apples mostly good bar cooker which didnt pollinate :(

But best of all atm is that the earlies are just about ready to start lifting :D

    Alex, much better :T

I like the without rose tinted specs. It's true. A lot of what we talk about is the 'grimmer side' disillusioning peoe about killing chickens when they become 'vegetarian chick keepers' talking about getting energy to small holdings getting rid of waste from small holdings , selling them, buying them, the problems with remoteness, or not being remote enough....the money needed, the crimes. The difficulties with human bodies and energy maintaining them.

It's not a nit mare, but neither is it a dream. Looking without the rose tinted view is the most important aspect of the decision.

I like the title too now. :)

Alf, just carry on taking it steady.:naughty: The pressure's come off you a bit, so I expect your body's re-balancing itself by making you slow down. ;)

    Nice piggies CTC....too nice really!!!:(

FK I will dig out one of my ferret piccies. Both of ours are 2' under now.

Nice drop of rain without the wind today, then it looks like cheering up. Everything seems to be growing like mad, especially the weeds.

Davesnave, everywhere that we sprayed is yellowing and 'drooping' including the knotweed, except the horsetail, its still ridget and green..

I know.. think there will be some heart break in the next few months:o

    better title..

Better Days, fingers crossed for monday,

Rummer, was thinking of looking back through my WII recipe books, and on-line for some frugal recipes etc..

I am also going to go back to bulk buying, when things are on genuine offer.
I used to buy off Approved foods, but tbh I don't find them as cheap as they used to be.
