Hello,

My HSBC debit card doesn't expire until 2015 but their new debit cards have the contactless feature - they're only issuing these when existing cards run out, but I really want one!

Do you think I can persuade them to give me one?

Just tell them that your card is damaged and stopped working?
We are born naked, wet and hungry...Then things get worse. :(

.withdrawal, NOT withdrawel ..bear with me, NOT bare with me
.definitely, NOT definately ......separate, NOT seperate
    should have, NOT should of
    .....guaranteed, NOT guarenteed
  • I thought that, but would they cancel my existing card? Don't want to be without a debit card for a few days if possible

Simply ask for a replacement card so your existing one will still work until the new on arrives.

    Have you tried asking them?

"I really want a contactless card, can I have my card replaced with one with the contactless technology?".

Alternatively, get a contactless credit card.

Thankfully Nationwide aren't issuing these. I don't mind them on credit cards (in fact, my Cap One progress has it) as then if you're scammed the money isn't yours that's been nicked.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

I don't know what all the hype is over a contactless card. If mine ever gets "upgraded" to this I won't use the feature anyway. It's just like having recycling bins foisted on you by the council.

I will believe in progress if the Cheque Guarantee scheme is resurrected.

Just tell them it still works but is starting to crack and split, and you need a new one.

Anything encouraging the use of cheques would be a retrograde step.

Just ask in a branch or ring them up. They will order a contactless card no problem. The existing card will still work for a couple of weeks after the above order.

I must admit I find it incredible useful, I only go into London about twice a month and it saves me a lot of time not having top up an Oyster card to use the buses and one of my local carparks now takes cards but only contactless ones. You might be surprised.

The main reason contactless terminals are being pushed in reality is so mobile payments can take off. It will do a bit more now since the next Samsung Galaxy S4 will feature the Visa PayWave App allowing anyone to connect their account.
