Taking family to Edinburgh this summer - reasonable hotels?

in Scotland
13 replies 1.5K views
We have 4 kids (15,7,5,5) and would like to take them to Edinburgh for a weekend this summer - we're tied to July/Aug with school hols.
Does anyone know any good hotels right in the centre of Edinburgh which won't break the bank?

Thanks.

We always use the travelodge in central Edinburgh. The most we have ever paid for a room there is £50 a night, as there are offers on every so often. You can walk to plenty of places from there. You used to be able to leave the car at the back, but last time we were there, we had to use a car park 3 or 4 minutes away, which wasn't a problem. Parking in Edinburgh is a nightmare, and it's not a place to discover by car.

I'd go for a B&B somewhere a couple of miles from the centre and get the bus into town. Edinburgh's not so big you can't do this easily. You might even be able to park a car a bit further out....

    Hope this helps.
If it was easy, everyone would do it!

There is an Express Holiday Inn on Picardy Place, which is in central edinburgh.

My mother and grandmother stayed here last time they visited. The rooms are basic, but family freindly and good value for money. They very often have special deals on for a stay of more than two or three nights.

You should be able to find it on google.

Edinburgh University offer accomodation, which is close to city centre ,between June and August, not sure about prices though.

Other chains which have hotels close to city centre are Ibis,Premier Lodge, Travel Inn and Novo Hotel.

Other options are to stay outside City Centre and use the excellent Bus Service for commuting.

Hi, I live in Edinburgh and would honestly suggest that you go for a hotel at least 5 miles from the centre. As previously mentioned the buses are excellent. We have lots of greenways etc. so it means you can sail in and out by bus in no time. I truly hope you aren't intending to drive around as it's an absolute nightmare. If you need any help on where to take your kids, I have a very active 11 yr old and we never sit still for 10 minutes when the holidays are on! There are lots of free places too. Welcome, it's a beautiful city.

Heriot Watt University also do summer accomodation here, nice campus with restaurant, shop, drs, hairdressers etc and lovely grounds. Situated just outside Edinburgh near the A71.

I just booked a room sleeping 4 people in this hotel for £79 a night in mid-June. From their website, select the Spring deals and choose the sale rate on the date selection page.
