Looking for a week's self-catering in and around Durham to sleep 4/5 including 2 children under 8 years old. Would prefer countryside but within reasonable reach of attractions and sights.

Has anyone been to Diggerland in Durham?

It is an area I have never explored :)

thanks in advance..

We went to Diggerland in Kent, and it would have been great fun if ours had been under 8. Even though they were a bit more than that, it was still a good day out, especially with grandparents in tow.

Might be worth contacting the colleges to see if they can help, if during university holidays. They have some flats, for postgrads and staff, which may be empty over the summer. Not countryside, but you can still get some fantastic views!

I live near diggerland and its not actually in Durham itself..(which can be quite expensive to stay in) its in a little village around ten mins drive away...try looking for somewhere to stay just outside of Durham there are loads of villages that do self catering holidays. Beamish is near Stanley...around a twenty min drive to Durham centre and is a lovely day out, pm me if you need any local info and good luck

  • Hi, We stayed in a cottage in crook near Durham and it was fab. You can book through Hoseasons the owners have two of the cottages next to one another. Great sized rooms, Ideal for the kids etc, pub next door for nice meals and a drink. Not far to go for all the attractions in the area.

    Definately recommend
