Are there any other alternatives to this? As it is rather expensive! I've just taken in a very shy boy cat, about 6/7 months old, he seems a bit traumatised at the moment and I want to do something to help him.

Thanks peeps :)

well, considering a plug-in last for months, the daily cost of running a feliway diffuser isn't too high, considering the alternatives.

my vet told me to try Rescue Remedy - just adding a couple of drops into my cat's water bowl each day. no idea if it worked as i had a feliway running at the same too! :)
  • I know its expensive but it is soooo worth it. The change in my cats was pretty much instant and i think its worth the money. I have never heard of an alternative if there is one im afraid.

Zylkene is another alternative that can work in some cats sometimes.
  • OK, so next thing is, where's the cheapest place to buy it!!

I've also seen the collars that release the pheromones, do these work?

  • I found eBay the cheapest. You may even be able to get a second hand diffuser for a few pounds then the refills are pretty reasonable if you shop about :)

i've found the diffuser refills for a low as £11 on the net - i think it was on a deal at the time. the average i pay is £15 usually from petmeds, vetuk and the suchlike.
  • I think you will waste money on other things that just don't work, then end up buying the Feliway in the end! I have also used Rescue and other flower remedies but the effect is not as strong and they don't come cheap anyway.
  • I've bought him one of those collars, and it seems to be working already, last night he had a bit of an explore round the house and even sat on the window sill with my Aussie.
