Em (my wife) and I realised that a lot of our money was going on takeaways and we decided to embark upon a no takeaway month. The takeaways were costing us around £20-£25 a time, so everytime we feel like having a takeaway we are going to put that amount into the savings account. See how much we have at the end of the month :rotfl:
Anyone else been spending too much on takeaways and fancy joining us on this challenge? So far we are on day 3 out of 28 and no hint of wanting a takeaway yet :T

I have a jar to put the money in..
I don't eat loads of take aways a couple a month (still two too many;)) but am on a diet too so it'll help with the weight and money issues!

I am also trying to lose weight like so it should help there too.
Good luck everyone, I really don't think it's going to be easy!

I think a good idea for us might be to have takeaway style food but just find cheaper alternatives - so you don't feel like you're depriving yourself! For example, we love pizzas, and quite often spend £20 on a Dominos or Pizza Hut - which is ridiculous really, but so yummy! I know you can get supermarket pizzas, but they are a bit boring and just don't compare to a lovely cheesy takeaway one do they? :rotfl:BUT we've recently discovered 'Chicago Town Takeaway' frozen pizzas from the supermarket - they are £2.98 and I think they're actually nicer than Dominos! Having one of those instead of takeaway saves us £17, so we're going to do that in future. Just shove them in the oven for 20 minutes (which is as long as you'd wait for a pizza to arrive anyway!) I make sure we've always got 2 or 3 in the freezer now, for a Friday or Saturday night. I recommend the pepperoni or chicken supreme with tomato sauce stuffed crust
We are also bad for spending £20 on Chinese takeaways too though - haven't managed to find a cheaper version of those yet! I've thought of getting those supermarket ones instead, which Tesco and Asda do in plastic bags - they're about £6 for two main meals, and you get all the extras like spring rolls and prawn crackers with it too. They do Indian versions too for £6 - you get 2 curries and naan bread, poppadoms, onion bhajis etc. That would save £14 if we got one of those, rather than a proper takeaway. Might make it this weekend's mission to try one!
Good luck everyone xxx

I love the Indian butter chicken and the korma from asda, both DEFINATELY as good as local take away if not better! :T

Tjretro - can I join in too please? I have drastically cut down on the takeaways since I became "addicted" to this site, but still give in to temptation every so often.
Thank you, and good luck all.

Not sure how my husband is going to fare on this one as I am a terrible cook!!!
Our last takeaway was 8 days ago (I sound like a takeawayaholic!). Will put the money away in my little pot.
