Dumb q, but have you tried changing the light bulbs?

I can't take the covers off to change the bulb, and I have no idea what bulbs it takes, never had those types of lights before you see!

  • Hi, only just caught up with this thread, sorry for the late reply.
If you ring barrack stores on your camp, and say you need a new bulb they will bring it out to you, if you act a bit thick and girly they will also fit it for you. I have had them change my kitchen strip light and also bathroom ones - funny swirly florescent ceiling thing and shaving strip light.
It wouldnt be MHS as they deal with repairs.

It can be MHS, I had a problem with a bulb in one of the round lights (the ones often fitted in bathrooms, with a tube bulb - sounds like the 'funny swirly florescent thing'). MHS removed and replaced the bulb 2 weeks ago. Worth phoning just to check......though I do my very best to avoid calling MHS

MHS will change non-standard bulbs, glow bulbs to electric fires, cooker hood bulbs, strip lights ,bathroom and outside lights. The one described above id a D Type bulb (small type). The rule of thumb seems to be that if it needs a screw driver to remove a cover - then MHS should do it. DE stores used to have bulbs, supplied to them by DE through a previous contract - these supplies are now dwindling to almost nothing.

  • I have nothing but good things to say about MHS - we moved out of our last MQ in Nov, to a private rent, and I have been seriously disappointed with the customer service & level of repairs (and the fact that so many repairs needed to be done on a private rent but thats another story...) MHS in comparison are fantastic!

It's good to hear positive experiences of MHS but it's not always the same for every family. I've seen some families left with really dire problems in their homes. Each experience will differ and this time round ours has been bad enough for us to make some life changing decisions. Each experience of MHS will depend on lots of circumstances e.g. the qtr occupied (age and condition), the actual faults and repairs being 'completed', the location of the qtr and how many engineers are left working for MHS in that particular area. We've had differing experiences over time but our personal experience in 2 houses this year has been atrocious. Longs to be back in a private rent, this qtr has just held onto it's essential services (heating, water, cieling and oven) for a whole month :j....goes off to touch wood :xmastree:

We had to call out the emergency chap on 23rd at 8pm (ish). He came out after only 20 mins or so but told us the boiler was broken and he wouldnt be able to get the new part till next week.. Asked us if we were going away which we are on Sunday and said it won't be fixed till next year. He gave us 2 crappy little heaters which are no good to man nor beast. At least we still have hot water though!!

  • i am pleased to say that i will be getting out of quarters in a few weeks for good.

    finally bought our own place.

i have to say that the repair service has suffered enormously since mhs took over.

it was so much better when you could pop into your local dhe and get a problem sorted there and then.
You got to get through what you've got to go through to get what you want but you got to know what you want to get through what you got to go through.

Thats exactly what it was, never had one of those lights before, the guy showed me how to open it, he used a 2 pence coin ;) . My husband couldnt do it either so we both felt as silly as eachother, all sorted now though. MHS were very good in my opinion. alled on the TUesday they were out on the Friday. Iwas atually still in bed the first time he called round :o so missed him, but I rang and they sent him back over within the hour ! The guy was very pleasant! :)

  • I have been trying to get my cooker taken away for years now as the kids can operate the gas buttons on it. They just say that its my responsibility to keep an eye on them. Now the wife tried to use it yesterday and the oven wont work.

They are going to think I have broke it.
