In the words of black sabbath. I am hypomanic at them moment and have been for the last week in which time i have racked up an extra £1300 worth of debt which brings me to a wopping £6,000. I am up a 2.00 am ready and raring to go but can't so have to pace the house. I have taken up smoking(47 and never ever smoked) drinking(only started recently) and feel like my brain is going to explode. I have rung the out of hours crisis line you have sent a fax for someone to come out and see me today. I hope they do as i can't take much more of this. Rant over. Just had to post as it is something to do.

  • Well seen the crisis team twice today and someone is coming out again later to give me some medication. The psydoc is coming out to me tomorrow to sort out my medication. Aparrently i should have been on mood stabilisers as well as all the other stuff to stop my manic eposides. Daughter is staying with my parents until i get better just hope it is soon.

Well done, it sounds like you've got a good team behind you there.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Thanks apparently i should have been receiving a lot more intensive support than i have been and they are going to put all that in place so i am hopeful things are going to improve soon. I have had a lot of support on these boards recently and i would like to say thanks.
  • Hope you're ok scooby1001,

The psych team should be able to put you in touch with someone who can help with your debts, as often CAB debt advisors are not overly knowledgeable in this specialist area. There are also steps that you can take to stop, or make it very difficult to obtain credit, but obviously that is a big decision to take, as it would also stop you obtaining credit when you are well. The psych team should be able to help you with this.

    Take care x

  • Poor Scooby, you've been having it rough recently.
Is there anything that can be done about the debt you have racked up this week (such as things going back to the shop or cancelling contracts in the 14 day cooling off period?).
Maybe someone from the CAB / Mind or someone you trust could have a look at the things you've buying /spending whilst you haven't been well and do some damage control.
  • I am wondering if i should ask for a review of my DLA. After speaking to four different people from the crisis team yesterday i am not receiving no where near enough support to keep me well. Thing has deteriouted rapidly since middle of august and as i only receive lower rate care and mobility and my medication andcare need have gone to pot i wonder about asking for a review, but obvioulsy worried about loosing what i have got which is indefinately but does not reflect my needs(i was given middle care care only indefinatly origionally and i put in when delusional a rubbish review to make them stop the dla but they just put the care down to low and added in the mobility) now i believe my care needs are at least middle rate and i want to get my mum or sister as carer so i can be kept on an even keek and not keep going so up and down, Any thoughts on should i do it or not?
  • The best thing to do is to get a proffessional benefits advisor (eg from mind or dial) to look at your case.
It sounds likley that you could be entitled to the middle rate of care (and possibly the higher) as you clearly need a higher level of 'supervision' (as its called) throughout the day to keep an eye on you, make sure you take your medication and prevent some of the distructive behaviour you have described (such as trying to get your benefits cut and running up debts. If you tend to stay up very late and may be at risk at night you may get the higher rate).

The question you will have to ask is weather you need this help 'most of the time' or just some of the time during periods of crisis. Ask your cpn or social worker what they think as they could wite a letter of support saying you are a risk to yourself most of the time and need a high level of supervision which would support your case.

What ever you do don't try to fill in the forms yourself as you risk making things worse (and because of trying to cancel your benefits before they may not listen to you). Get someone like Mind to help you as they will understand your position the best.

If yo give us an idea what area you live in we can try to look up what services are in your area.
  • I am surprised that you are only on LRC, bipolar is almost always awarded middle or higher. I would ask for a review, with the support of the MH team.

I would disagree with this. If you apply for the review when you are feeling well, then there is no reason why you cannot complete the forms yourself. There seems to be a big misconception that people that apply themselves always fail, and this is not the case. Nonetheless, it is down to personal choice as to whether you want to do it yourself or get help x
