Chainging names for Utilities?

Hello

I have a £700 debt with my utility supplier (from previous property but same supplier for current one) and want to include it in my BR.

Im guessing if I do this that they will want to instaill a pre-pay meter, which i really do not want neither does the landlord. (private tennant)

My mum has saud I can put the gas/electric in her name. Can I do this even if she doesnt live her? What do I say to the suppliers, that i have left the property and then she says she now lives here?

Sorry if this sounds like a really stupid quesion im just paniking a bit. Was gonn atry to hold off on the the BR until next year when name doesnt get printed in paper, but now just wanna get it out the way and stop putting off the inevitable!

Is there a reason why you want to keep the same supplier for the new property??

I would think if you are including the debt in the BR then they may not want you as a customer in the future so i think your only option is to either aggree with the OR to pay them more each month on top of the bill...this would have to come out of your surplus or to change supplier totally and hopefully get a much better deal.

You may be able to put supply in her name but im not sure how the OR would see this or the Supplier as may be class as deception or fraud?? not sure!

Ive heard that from some point next year the name part will no longer appear in the local paper.

I was going to wait until then, but its causing me too much stress, and its just putting off the inevitable, so it may as well be now rather than 9 months down the line.
