Dealing with Creditors pre-BR, the start.

Hi all.
I have just stopped paying all my creditors to save up for BR...
I just had a call from Moorcroft who wanted to know where their payment was.
"CCCS told me to stop paying to save the money for bankruptcy" I tell them, which is what was suggested... the reply was "OK, we'll be taking action then".
I've been talking on and off to various creditors for a couple of years now, but in the past have always made an effort to grovel/pinch from peter to pay paul/etc. This time it feels ever so different knowing that the BR decision has been made. Can't say if it has made me nervous or not...kind of just numb at the moment.
Calls such as these will no doubt increase over the next few weeks, but do people have advice for coping with them and/or what to say while pre-BR?
Just what action can they take and can it affect my BR plans?

I just ignored most calls, refused ID checks if I did talk to anyone... generally hid away for a couple of months
wasn't the best way to deal with it but knowing that it'd all be over soon helped!
:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0 -
Agree with Wasp, Just ignore them or tell them you are going BR and they will receive the details from the OR. Also ask to be contacted by letter only and that any contact via telephone you will consider as harrasment..never know might work!
If you are certainly going BR then whats the worst they can do?? not a lot...they cant take it further etc as the BR would cancel any pendin action they have and any court orders they may get..
So final thought then is just to ignore and keep saving the money.

Yep. Do nothing! At the end of the day, there is nothing that they can do. If any of them are daft enough to take further action, the only action they can take will be a CCJ as a first port of call - despite what they will tell you, baliffs etc are only issued AFTER a CCJ and not before. Now, all this takes time and any possible CCJ will be wiped with bankruptcy anyway, so it will only cost them money.
They will hassle you. Thats the biggest problem of all I am afraid. They send in the big guns (did with me) to try and squeeze anything out of you before you go BR. I would strongly suggest, and I did in the end, to change your phone number?? They cannot call you then and letters can be "filed". I called BT and said I was getting harrassing phone calls (I was!) and they changed the number for free. Just do not give out the new one to anyone you do not trust.0 -
As Skylight says if you talk to them they will try every trick in the book to try and wangle and bully some money out of you but make sure you stick to your guns and don;t pay them a bean!!:hello:Save a little money each month and at the end of the year you’ll be surprised at how little you have.An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind0

2Loose - I am in the same situation as you. Got my Court date in 2 weeks, stopped making payments 2 weeks ago. Have had a couple of letters asking me where the money is, had a couple of 0870 numbers come up, I just ignored the calls and have opened the letters and just filed them away.
Try not to worry which I know is easier said than done. I had never missed a payment before this month, so it felt really weird not paying them but we had to, to get the BR fee, so just waiting our Court date now! Keep posting with any questions. xx
Oooh, we also changed our landline, only took 24 hours to do. xx"Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, except backwards and in high heels"
