Can anyone recommend a good mortgage site?-or are they all pretty much the same.My current brilliant capped rate with the coventry expires soon and they've offered me a 2yr fixedat 4.99%--but they want 250 quid fee!!! Incidentally i really want to input the details online and not have advisors phoning me and trying to sell their own products.

you'll probably find that no matter where you go you'll have to pay fees for a new mortgage and probably a lot more than £250, you'll have valuation fees to pay again, legal fees, admin fees etc. My mum is recently remortgaging with A&L and they are charging her £250 for admin, it seems a lot less than elsewhere she looked.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

I certainly haven't found them all the same, in fact suprisingly I haven't found 2 sites that listed the same rate in first place. Very weird!
I tried https://www.moneysupermarket.com but found it very difficult to get on with due to the amount of new windows it opens up. You could try https://www.moneyfacts.co.uk it's the most complete site I've tried but it didn't include any details on the best deal I found which was through https://www.mortgagegenie.co.uk who offer commission rebates.0 -
by the way can I just say that unless you come up with a mortgage that is at a much better rate - saving you money over the entire term of the mortgage, then stay where you are - it seems pretty good and you won't have all the hassle of reapplying etc. Sites like moneysupermarket tell you the true cost of the mortgage over the term e.g. 2 years or whatever. But most I see are adding at least £500 to your mortgage and then some upfront - so be careful. Another thought - it sometimes takes AGES to remortgage with another company - we recently did so and moved to Brittania they took 4 MONTHS to get it through (it was a very popular mortgage - with surprisingly no fees and no early reayment charge - offer over now though) and in the mean time we were paying a higher rate with our orignal lender nationwide - so take that into account as well.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY

A couple more comparison sites for you

Be very careful of some of the products that appear to be cheap - they are often for short periods with long tie-ins.

I just want to thank Martin and this site for recommending and encouraging me to remortgage, (i used L&C as featured here a while back; they went through all the costs invoved and whether it is worthwhile...) and they came up trumps, saving us almost £70 / month taking into account all fees etc. I used their solicitors and it all went smoothly.
I must admit i would not have remortgaged had it not been for all the information / advice provided on this excellent site.0 -
allaince and leicester are currently offering a fee free remortage deal of 4.74% plus if you are sneaky and open an account with them first then take out a mortgage you get £250 put into your account as a thankyou for your custom plus if you apply on line you get further monies for opening an account rather than going into a branch
sorry forgot rate is fixed for 2 or 5 years0
