Laptop screen repair?

I'm looking for some advice please.

I have a 3 year old dell Inspiron 8200 laptop with a broken screen (it's not physically cracked but there are lots of black lines and blobs on the screen making it almost useless.)

The screen is UXGA resolution.

I've been told that this can't be repaired only replaced, cost £270.

Is this correct (ie. can they ever be repaired?)

If so can anyone recommend a good source of new screens?

Thanks

They can be replaced but as yor laptop is 3 years old it may not be worth replacing, the best thing you can do is look on ebay for a match.
they are easy to fit, the screws are usually hidden underneath the rubber plugs, or sometimes they may be under the logo.

Got to agree with flang, I changed the screen on a Toshiba Satillite Pro 4300....the screen new would have cost far more that the laptop, bought a screen from ebay cost £35 including postage ( I was pleased) and changed it myself. Do a search for how to replace, the tosh I changed was actually a lot easier than I expected even easier than the website I found which described how to do it :)
