£12 despite DD payments

I am being charge £12 for late payments most months despite having payed by monthly direct debit since i got the card in 1999. I have never missed a payment.

Can they do this?

Can I get this money back?

All advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you are paying late then the £12 charge is clearly documented in the Terms and Conditions.

Why not alter your DD so that payment is on time ?

I didnt think they would allow you to pay by direct debit after the payment date is due. Surely they would only allow to be taken out at least 4 days before payment date

    Hang on a min.

If its a DD then it will be set by them to be taken from your account and credited to the CC before the deadline. If they have failed to do this it is simply not your fault!

If on the other hand you have set up a Standing Order, then the onus is on you to ensure the payment is made on time.

    Hope that helps.

When I got the card and filled out the initial forms I filled in the direct debit and nominated a DD date (Just after pay day). The payment date seems to change each month.

Are you 100% that you are paying by direct debit and not standing order?

I filled in the direct debit and nominated a DD date (Just after pay day).

If you chose the day, did you allow enough time for the payment to "clear".
    It isn't instant.
Did you allow around 5 working days (not including weekends and bank holidays).
The payment date seems to change each month.

Banking transactions do not take place on weekend or public holidays.
Did you allow enough time for the payment to take place in working days.

Perhaps you could give us an example of one particular month
e.g. can you provide the latest
    a) due date on credit card statement
    b) date money was taken from you bank account according to your bank statement
    c) date money was credit to the credit card shown on credit card statement.

My guess is that if you have chosen the date you have not allowed enough time for the payment to happen in working days.
    There are 2 solutions.
Move the payment date or move the statement date.
Make sure you allow for 2 bank holidays and 2 weekend days e.g. Easter.

Err. If you get hit £12 for a 'late' payment, surely that is an early payment for the next month so you shouldn't keep getting a £12 a month charge? What happens if you make a manual payment (so you make 2 payments in one month)?

    Don't be silly.
You can't count it for 2 months.

You can make as many payments as you like.
As long as you hit the minimum by the due date (allowing for clearance) then you will be fine.
However you cannot count it twice as you are suggesting above.

Not necessarily. If the card offers less than 56 days interest free, then your late payment may arrive up to 2 weeks before the next statement is produced.
