Capital One may seem to be a rip off, but you need to take a look at Virgin and MBNA, same APR rate! Rememeber, Capital One is your friend. ;)

I dont mean to put a damper on this but, it is very possible unless you have the card that you may be refused once they re-credit check you.
I hope that you get the card however Capotal One do say that they reserve the right to refuse the card to you upon a re-credit check so long as the card has not been sent to you.

Oh !!!!!!!!. Ironically I don't actually want or need a credit card and would be happy with £10 if it would build up my credit rating so I could get a mortgage. If they do re-credit check me and refuse then I guess I'm going to have to get a preloaded version and do it the long way. Oh well, I'll have to wait and see. :)

Like you I was pleased when I got the agreement and letter to say, "Welcome" I though I dont care about the APR so long as I can rebuild my credit, however reading the small print after sending the card read that they often re-check applications.
If you can, open a current account with a Visa card, that will build your rating up with lots of nice [0] that would be cheaper than a preloaded card.
Even a cashcxard account builds credit, (I think) if you go with Abbey.

Any how, hope you do get it!!!:D

I applied for the CapOne platinum card. Received a letter of acceptance inviting me to sign and return the agreement. I did just that. After 2 weeks of nothing I gave them a call and it turned out I had been declined after a second check. What that told them that the first one didn't is a mystery to me.

Lloyds TSB issue a Visa debit card on their basic account available to people with poor credit, they report to all three CRA's.

    Good point.
And that TSB Visa account is pretty good for a basic Visa account

Whoohoo! I actually got the card. And with a £500 limit which was a bit of a surprise. From the stories on here I was expecting something tiny.

First (second actually) step to improving my credit rating.

    *strokes shiny new card lovingly*
