Out of interest, should I let my CC company know in advance of a largish purchase I'm about to make on their card so it can be logged somewhere.?
Reason I ask is that there generally isn't a lot of buying activity on my card .Just worried in case its blocked as I try to pay as a possible 'fraudulent' purchase in view of the amount involved(how embarassing!.)
Or will I be ok as long as its well within the limit?
Cheers as usual

Yes, give them advance warning before as you will find a block is placed on your card as most credit card companys monitor their customers spending.
For example, if you spent £100 a month for the past 12 months and then suddenly you spend £2000 then they WILL block the card and not honor the payment and to get the block lifted usally means alot of waiting on the phone.DELETE ACCOUNT.

Thats exactly my thinking-I'd best let them know.
Many thanks

Yes, definitely let them know. What usually happens with largish amounts is the retailer will contact their bank who will ring through to the credit card company to do a check, as long as the details are correct and especially if there is a note on your record saying you will be making this purchase the cc company will say its ok to go ahead.
Alternatively, the purchase will go through as normal but the monitoring system will highlight it and request action, if a note has been made on your account the operator should put it through as being ok.
I used to work at capital one fraud department and did this kind of thing everyday - good communication is always helpful!0 -
I would let them know. I recently ordered a laptop on my Barclaycard and they stopped it. They did not even bother to tell me.0

I spent 2400[£550 / £1850] on 2 purchases and did not tell them nor did they stop it going through.and that was with Cap10

Egg seem to stop this for me on any purchase above £300, or several small purchases in one go.
However Barclaycard let me charge £1700 in one go and it wen through straightaway.Best Regards,

I called LTSB a while ago to inform them about a largish purchase of £1000, the advisor told me they can't pre-empt that. They said only call them if the purchase didn't go through.0

I'd pre-warn them but don't be surprised if they still block it!For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070
