I have recently sold a bundle of Ralph lauren shirts for £9.27 and £4.99 postage. I received the following strange message from the buyer today:
hi,
i hate to ask this favour of you. i have just read the ful dispription of the shirts i won and noticed they are long sleeve. i thought they were short sleeved.could i ask you to relist them and i will pay you the relisting fee as well as £5.00 for the inconvienience. if you dont want to i will pay for the shirts in full. but as i say i thought they were short sleeved.
please let me know which would suit you best.
sorry for the hassle and thank you.
It justs seems strange that someone is prepared to pay £5.00 and relisting fees and not end up with an item. Should I accept this offer or insist on full payment? The buyer has yet to pay for the item although although the invoice for the full amount has been sent. If I decide to accept his offer how would this be transacted? (very confused). I cannot even think how this would work and how it would be done???? Thanking you in advance!!
just checked listing and long sleeved mentioned in item specifics and description (280228149846). Although the buyer has very good 100% feedback. Im pretty sure it is legitimate but how could this offer be arranged and am I being greedy if I accept the £5.00 + relisting fee

Thanks Custardy how would I do this? I guess he would send me the money (about £5.50) manually to my email address???? Im not quite sure about the mutual bit??? What does this mean and how do I do it? Thanks0 -
yeah just give them a paypal email address to send the payment
the mutual means you have agreed not to go ahead with the sale
the up to date ebayers can give you the exact steps,as its been ages since i listed on ebay0 -
I would send them a " mutual" that way you would get your listing fees back ...
.... At least they sent you an " honest " message ...... rather than " my cat or 1 year old child " bid on the item !!
As much as i would love to accept their £5 "compensation " ... i wouldn't and would therefore let them keep it .... i know you listed them as " long sleeve " but ...to me ... it sounds like they made a genuine mistake ....

Thanks Terri- How do I send a mutual?0 -
Hi HP
Open an item not paid dispute and follow the instructions for mutual agreement.(i think)
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/tp/unpaid-item-process.html
Mind you if it was me (I'm a bit soft!!) i would not take the money off them as it does sound like a genuine mistake.

Thanks Terri- How do I send a mutual?
It's ages since i had to do one of these ..... and touch wood ... i won't need to .... for a while !! so have just looked it up for you ....
Basically you need to open an " unpaid item dispute " and one of options you will be given will say " We've agreed not to complete the transaction." With this option, the buyer does not receive an Unpaid Item strike, the seller receives a Final Value Fee credit, and the item is eligible for a relist credit.
If you get stuck go to the help section on ebay ... and in the search bar type " unpaid item process " ..... you will need the sold item number handy ...
Before you do this .... it would be best if you let the buyer know what you are doing ..... then as soon as they " mutally " accept ... you will receive your fees back ....
To be honest i can't remember how long you have to wait before starting the process .( think it maybe 7 days .... from memory )..... i'm sure someone will be along soon to let you know ....

Thanks everyone. Would I be able to do a second chance offer to the under bidder or would voided the first sale mutually make this impossible. If there is way would I have to wait for the first buyer to accept the mutual before I could offer as second chance? Thanks very confused!!0

if you send and a 2nd chance offer then you dont do a mutual with the 1st as their sale is 'gone'
full ebayers will confirm though0 -

Hi again ...
Have just copied and pasted this from ebay .... it should help ...
" 1) Sellers can file an Unpaid Item Dispute.
Sellers can report an Unpaid Item up to 45 days after the transaction date (i.e. the date when the buyer commits to buying the item and the seller commits to selling it). Usually the seller must wait seven days after a listing closes to file an Unpaid Item Dispute. However, in the following exceptional cases, the seller can file a dispute immediately:- At the time of the filing the buyer is no longer a registered user of eBay.
- The seller and buyer wish to mutually withdraw from the transaction.
In the second case the seller must file the dispute for mutual withdrawal. If the buyer responds to the dispute and agrees, the seller will receive a Final Value Fee credit and no strike will be given to the buyer. If the buyer fails to respond, the seller can still close the dispute to receive a Final Value Fee credit, and the buyer will not receive an Unpaid Item strike .. "
So looks like you can file the unpaid item dispute straight away ....as long as you tick the box saying that you " both mutally withdraw " from the sale ....
Don't forget to let your buyer know before you do this .... then as soon as they agree you will get your fees etc back and can then do a " second chance offer " ...
