Barclaycard

I paid off BCard bal approx 18 months ago - don't use card now as interest would be 19+%. When I opened the account also took advantage of a Barclaycard Health Insurance offer and have been paying from BCard monthly for policy which I have been trying to cancel for more than 6 months. Can't find the policy (moved house twice ) Barclaycard won't stop paying it cos it's a Direct Debit, Barclaycard Health won't cancel it because they say it was through a third party that it was set up. I rang Financial Ombudsman - person on phone says I can only cancel with Barclaycard Health and I am not allowed to insist that the Barclaycard Credir CArd company cancel it so I have been going around in circles for over 6 months and would like some help!!

Phone Barclaycard and tell them that you have lost your card, then they will have to send you a new card with a new number. They will probably tell you that you will need to contact any companies that you pay recurring payments to about your new card details or they wont be able to claim the money each month. But fantastically thats exactly what you want. This works for most things, but as its barclaycard insurance they might sneakily tell the insurance company the new card number, but I don't think so. Also watch out as the insurance company might try and claim that you owe them for not paying the policy, but as you have made fair attempt at canceling the policy you should be alright and they should then just cancel you. And one more thing don't even think about closing the card, these payments would still probably go on to the card if you did that, as they were 'authorized' before you canceled the card...

Beware of assuming a card number change will stop recurring payments. It doesn't I got stung by the AA when my Mint card number changed. (fortunately they carried forward the credit for a year)

I would suggest a simple solution (if you don't use the card) would be to cancel the card, along with letters to both parties cancelling the policy and informing them that the credit card is no longer valid as it has been cancelled.
