London to manchester

Can anyone suggest a cheap way of getting from London to Manchester on Sunday 8th June. I can find cheap tickets there on the friday put coming back is quite expensive. I have checked all the obvious places. £28 is about the cheapest I can find.

The £28 is with EMT from St Pancras via Sheffield - a long way round.

Virgin's cheap tickets for that Sunday are not released yet so it may be worth waiting. They should be cheaper - but with the possibility of engineering works yet to be announced (which is why Virgin are being so slow) they may be few in number.

The etickets for virgin are available but does not include Sunday. Do you think there will be other cheap fares announced?

It's not the e-tickets that I'm referring to (AFAIK they are never Sundays anyway) but the normal advance purchase. There ought to be some of these available but there don't seem to be any on Sundays in June. Whether they will release them last minute I don't know.
