End of 0% with First Direct

Having just asked another question on this board about Egg, thought I would post about this.

My 0% ends with FD on 6 October. I phoned to ask when it needs to be paid off by and they said 28th November!! They said that you pay in arrears, so I will get my October transactions on my November statement, the due date of which will be 28th November.

That sounds totally bizarre to me. Even the guy I spoke to went through to the visa department to make sure of his facts. They are putting it in writing for me, although he said that as calls are recorded I would be ok even without the written confirmation.

Thing is that DH also has FD visa card stooze at present, so should I get them to confirm the same in writing? or can we just take it as read that his can be paid off in the same way too?

Other people have also reported getting generous end dates. However I would ask for the end date of the other card too rather than making an assumption. I didn't get an extension on mine.

Sometimes you can be guided by the estimated interest picking up the end of 0% (and being a non-zero amount) and sometimes you can't rely on this as there seems to be variation even here. But if it appears non-zero that should tell you when indirectly. Alternatively sometimes the end date gets printed on the second from last interest-free statement period

[These are only general observations, I'm afraid]

  • Milarky - where do I look for this? The statement doesn't seem to mention anything about estimated interest. It does say "No interest charged on this statement" but other than that, can't see any mention of interest.

    Sorry if I'm being thick.
  • I know this is a late response, but the very fact that your statement doesn't have an amount of estimated interest on it means you don't have to pay that statement off.

If you get it right, you can end up with much longer on 0% than the 6 months that's advertised (well, you could until it was withdrawn :D )

Because i know exactly how it works, i did my BT on 01/08/05, and i won't have to pay it off until the last week in March '06, very nearly 8 months!
