Debt Free Credit Card

I know I'm probably seen as a bit weird by the expert card users using this forum but I don't have and don't want to have a credit card. Having extricated myself from Credit Card debt back in the 80's, I cut up the cards and vowed never again. And all has been fine since - until a few weeks ago! My wife and I travel to Italy 2 or 3 times a year and for the last 5 visits have hired our car from Hertz, paying in advance online using our Debit Card. However, a few weeks ago when we went to pick up the car from Rome airport which we had booked & paid for 3 months in advance, we were refused because we hadn't got a Credit Card to cover the CDW. (which incidentally we had covered privately as advised on this site). It ended up costing us a £30 cancellation fee to Hertz (now returned) and double the amount for the car hire through Avis and we still haven't got the original car hire fee back from Hertz! . Can you you advise which would be the best Credit Card for someone who isn't actually going to use it unless he smashes up a hire car abroad?

if you are not going to use the card much then the APR doesn't matter so basically any card will do.

however, you may find that your lack of previous CCs makes it difficult to get a new one... but try your bank first and if they refuse then one of the cards for first time user.. absurd APRs but you wont be affected.

Nationwide, Post Office & Abbey Zero are all good for abroad. (I think they are all free from a foreign transaction charge.)
