WHICH COMPANY WOULD BE BEST TO USE FOR LARGE BOX TO ITALY: please help

I have just sold quite a large lot of Subbuteo to a buyer in Italy. I weighed the items and box and it was just under 2kg so I sent invoice to buyer and it was approx. £11 for Airmail Small packets. However after spending a long time with bubble wrap, peanuts and fragile tape the post office could not accept the package for standard airmakl small packets as too big (not too heavy). I thought never mind and enquired as to the cost using Parcel force and was quoted £27.00. I just wondered if anyone new where I could get a cheaper quote : The box is 26cm x 26cm and weight 1.983 kg and do not need insurance or signed for. I tried so hard to keep the package under 2kg to qualify but completely forgot about the size. The assistant stated that the box needed to be under 90cm all the way around and I believe if my maths is right that it is 104cm (4x26). I could perhaps consider a smaller box but this one was already full to the brim with the sale items and protective stuff. Any ideas? Thank you

If it is going to Italy, do not consider anything other than a service with a signature on delivery.
It has a terrible reputation for items not received claims.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
Sorry to jump on your thread
But, Im constantly sending to my parents in cyprus, boxes upto 2kg(although would like heavier!) full of toiletries etc. I've got 5 sitting ready to go now, so that is £55.55 and is rather alot, always spending a fortune!
Does anyone know a better way?
No need really for a sig and gets delivered to a PO BOX, never had one thing go missing and I send atleast one parcel a week0 -

Or for a little bit more, checkout http://www.interparcel.com
I guessed at your parcel size (65cm x 20cm x20cm) but it quoted £18.00+VAT which includes £50 loss/damage insurance. More available at 2% of amount insured.
(the ppwexpress offer appears to limit insurance to $US 20.00/kilogram)
Delivery would be using DHL Europlus, which I am sure requires a signature on delivery (I've never received anything via DHL that didn't require a signature)
Edit: scrap that - it looks like you've found the same service cheaper"Now to trolling as a concept. .... INTERPARCEL
http://www.interparcel.com/quote/courier-quote2.php
i did mention something about postage to italy when you were selling these (post 7) i ended up using this courier, and set up an account once completed and you get 5% off every other parcel sent
use dhl/parcel2go quite a few times and have only let me down once 2 years ago they never picked it up so i used home/reality instead which parcel2go/dhl sometimes use themselves when overstreched0 -

Ah, I should have read your initial post more carefully.:o
I would try Royal Mail again - perhaps another post office. I think they've misunderstood.
The rules for maximum size of international items is that the length plus width plus height should be no greater than 900mm with no single dimension greater than 600mm

That's not quite the same as they have assumed today because they seem to have added four sides together."Now to trolling as a concept. .... No probs, I may also be worth trying these (you'll have to google them Im afraid):
Worldwide Parcel Services
interparcel
parcelflight
transglobalexpress
Express Packages Deliveries- You'll have to email Richard for a quote. From our dealings with him, he seems a top bloke!
As for ppwrexress, we've sent 150+ parcels with them fine; int and domestic. It will be with DHL and will take 3-5 days'ish.0
