Personally I would carry it as hand luggage for fear of damage. If you carry as hand baggage you will be required to take it out and put in a tray when going through security.

Its only a problem if you ever want to see your laptop again! Never let it out of your sight - always take it with you as hand luggage.

I took mine last year but wouldnt let it out of my sight, so it came in hand luggage.

Only extra bit of hassle was that they wanted me to prove it was a laptop at security (turned it on), but this was an extra 5 minutes so no worries :)

Ive done this before but the villa we're in has free internet so i can use it from my room instead of having to sit in a internet cafe :)

i've taken my laptop abroad at least 10 times.. i've never put it in my hold luggage, always my hand luggage... get a slimline laptop sleeve to protect it, and it will go in any hand luggage...

on some planes (really small ones) they do airside luggage checking, where the plane is too small for things to fit in the overhead bins.. that is the only time it has ever gone in the hold, but a 35 minute flight, and i get it as soon as i step off the plane, not at the luggage carousel, i'm not too fussed about that...

    but yeah.. hand luggage. always

I agree with some of the other MSN people on here, you really should put the laptop in a hand lugage. I was advised by heathrow security to always tell them I had a laptop. I was always told to remove the laptop before the hand luggage went through security. It is worth taking, but why not ask the other end if there is internet connection. Lastly, if you are in a hotel hide your laptop, rooms do get broken into by locals, as everyone knows tourists bring money with them
