Problem Paying With PayPal

I am hoping someone can give me a but of advise please. I have been using ebay now for several years.I have sold stuff and purchased things and never really had any problems with ebay or paypal until now. I have won a dress which I am trying to pay for through paypal but when Ive tried to pay a message comes up saying my account has a negative balance. I am a bit confused as I have never had to add any funds. Ive always had money in the account from the stuff I have sold but thats finished. i didnt think that I would have to add funds. I have added money to the account but it states it should be clear by the 28th of may. I have always paid for items through paypal and have never come across this. I have emailed the seller who said I can pay by postal order or cheque but Im a bit annoyed thatthis has happened as I have always paid for stuff straight away.
has anyone had this problem?I hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

Well... if the money you've made from selling has run out, the money for your item has to come from somewhere, it's not a credit account
Bank funding does take a whileA quicker option would be to add a credit card to your PP account.

Hi ya, Not sure if this will help, but if ever I don't have the funds in Paypal it automatically takes the money straight from my registered bank account.
This can be the full amount or part payment if I don't have full amount in Paypal.0 -
Thanks for your replies. Ive never had to add funds from my bank account. i throught paypal did that automatically. Maybe its changed now I dont know. I jst find it odd as its never happened before.Like you GymGirl, they havetaken the money from my account so I have never had to add the money from my bank account to my paypal account.0

If you have a credit or debit card listed with paypal it may have expired as it sounds like you are paying by echeque.0

yes i do have a debit card but it doesnt expire till next year. I have not heard of echeque. Sory if im sounding thick. Its just that it got me worried. I have not long moved address but my bank knows of my new address and I have changed my details on ebay and paypal too. I managed to use my paypal account few days ago but i had money in the account from when I sold my sons things. But after I got my son a few bits, I had no funds left in my paypal account. My own bank account has money in it.Just seems odd. As long as it is a normal procedure and not anything dodgy then I wont worry about it.As I hear some horror stories with peoples accounts being hacked ect, It got me a little worried.0

If you have changed address then its possible that your debit card is no longer valid as the security code on the signature strip relates to your postcode somehow. Don't worry about echeques they just take about 10 days to clear so your seller may not send the item until then.0

Have you checked your transactions in Paypal? Is it possible someone's done a chargeback on something you've sold? I'm just a little concerned that you say you got a message saying your account had a negative balance. I could be wrong, but I don't think this has anything to do with echeques if it won't let you pay at all. Have you checked your balance in Paypal to see how much it's down by?0

Thanks guys for the info.I have double checked again and it seems that my account is still under my previous debit card. I remember updating it but maybe i never confirmed it.
So I have added my not so new card that I use now as well as trying to confirm my address. But I added the funds from my previous card. I thought adding the funds would be from my bank account, like a direct debit kind of thing. The negaitive balance is around £12. So will the money i have tried to add come from my bank account??Why doesnt it take it from my card??
I havent sold anything in ages but I had funds from when i last sold a few bits and I have since got a few dvds and games from my son .
Hopefully once the funds have been transfered all will be well as I want to start selling things again.
I had to confirm my new address with a landline which I dont have so I have used my brthers landline.Would that be ok?0 -
The money will be taken from the funding source available at the time, ie. your bank account. It won't take it from your card because the details weren't valid at the time.
Re: confirming - they will ring you on that number, and you will have to prove it's you speaking to them, so I wouldn't do this unless your bro lives really closeMy TV is broken!

he does live close by and I gave him the security number that was given at the time and it now says address confirmed. it wont let me use my mobile. Once I get a landline then I will be update it.I just hope t wont be a problem.Thanks0
