From Monday the 19th of May to Tuesday the 30th of September 2008, sellers who list using the Auction-style, Auction-with-Buy It Now or Buy It Now Only (Fixed Price) formats, will also be able to use the Gallery Listing Upgrade feature for free for each item they list.

Thats good news, i always thought the gallery fee was a rip-off, hopefully they will remove the fee foreverCross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0

Interesting. Presumably they are counting on lots of bulk sellers who don't usually use the gallery updating all their templates to include it and then forgetting to remove it after the summer .. resulting in a bumper payout for eBay right at the beginning of September
I doubt they'll remove the fee for good - if there's one thing I've never known eBay to do, it's give up a proven revenue stream. But we'll see, I guess. Given that more & more items are BINs now it is harder and harder for them to sell the line that using Gallery gives you a higher end price ...For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also ...0 -

Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -
It's worked well for them in the US and France, and given that eBay are going down the "retail sellers" route, it is better to have a site full of pretty images for buyers to see, rather than the green camera symbol.
Ultimately, a gallery does make a difference to a seller - they do lead to more views, higher selling prices, and ultimately a higher Final Value Fee for ebay. The cost to eBay is negligble, but the rewards are measurable.
It's a shame that ebay use this as an occasional promotion rather than a site feature though.
(agrees - they must desperate at the moment!)<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
According to the T&C's the promo is only for Items listed in the 'Parts & Accessories' sub category of the Cars, Parts & Vehicles category.
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/sell/gallery4free/What's Included?- Only items listed in Euros on eBay.ie using the Auction-style, Auction-with-Buy It Now or Buy It Now Only (Fixed Price) formats are included.
- Any item previously scheduled to go live between Monday the 19th of May and Tuesday the 30th of September 2008 will qualify for the promotion.
- If you re-list an item during the promotional period that had previously closed without a successful sale, the re-list will qualify for the promotion.
- Items listed in the 'Parts & Accessories' sub category of the Cars, Parts & Vehicles category.

i think it's free gallery for everything - including items in the car parts category but excludes all other items in the motors category.0 -
What's excluded?
- Apart from the "Parts & Accessories" sub category as detailed in the "What's Included?" section above, all other items listed in any "Motors" category are excluded from the promotion.
It would be great if this was a permanent thing.0 -

yes but fat chance of that
someone has hit the nail on the head above, alot of sellers have pulled out recently due to the fee structure and feedback changes, and now the paypal required in all listings rule, so this is desperation stuff to get alot of them back
also make the site look better cos those tiny camera images look !!!!!! and finally, people will be so used to the gallery image being free, when it ends ebay will pocket as sellers who have a constant supply of a certain item use the old listings as templates, will unknowingly be paying the extra0
