My visa electron card came today. I'm just wondering a number of things.
1- As it has a chip, can i use chip and pin in a shop like with most other cards?
2- Can I buy stuff online e.g. a world of warcraft membership or off of Amazon or iTunes?
3- What can't I do with this card?
I am with Abbey if that is of any relevance

The card will act as a cashcard and debit card where accepted (which these days is pretty much everywhere).
An Electron card will NOT guarantee cheques.
Direct Debits are nothing to do with the card but are attached to the current account itself.

3. You may find that less number of shops especially on the Internet accepts Electron card in contrast to a full VISA debit which is accepted virtually everywhere in the world including the internet.
Don't despair, the majority of UK shopping websites accept the Electron card.0 -

Oops my bad , didn't explain myself very well, I meant that you get a cheque book with the card, I didn't mean it was a Cheque Guarantee.
And I was also thinking of my account where I've set up direct debits.
I was thinking more about the account than the actual card. Sorry

You don't necessarily get a cheque book and the ability to set up direct debits with an electron card. I know someone who has an electron for their cash ISA....0 -
just read martin's 'cheap flights...ryanair' article and if u use a visa electron to pay for flights u don't get charged a fee.
whereas a debit card costs £1.20 and credit card £3.20
it's a small perk...but it's still a perk!!0 -

I used to work for a mobile phone retailer and they actually, for some odd reason, despaired customers who wanted to verify their address details aover the phone with a Solo or Electron card. I used to hate the way the Managers used to assume that those holding Visa Electron or Solo cards were 'bad' customers with 'crap' credit ratings. Dunno, my credit rating is A1 and I've had my Visa Electron since uni days!No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30
