Day trip to France / Belguim... Looking for a Tool Cabinet, where should I go ?

Hi

My son has just started his Engineering Apprenticeship. He needs to get a tool cabinet very soon and gradually buy the tools of his trade.

We have been to the local shops and searched ebay, I was shocked by how much these cabinets actually cost, even second hand.

Whilst searching I came across a make called Varo, which is apparently a decent European brand.

I haven't found any stockists in our area, so I thought it might be a good idea to take a trip to France and / or Belguim and look there. (I would of course stock up on beer etc whilst there.)

Does anyone know of any retailers who sell tool cabinets ?

What other bargains should I be looking for while there ?

Any items that are significantly cheaper (other than fags) in France / Belguim than in Britain ?

I'm planning on using Eurotunnel for a day trip.

Thanks

    I've been Money Tipped!
I came across this link, I'm assuming that the links within the page are for DIY stores or similar on the continent. Just have to check them out.

Also, when I was in Germany there was a store, kind of like B&Q/Focus etc rolled into one, sold everything under the sun and it was called Hela. Here is the website.

    www.hela.de

You could always send an email to enquire, stores in Germany and Luxembourg if that is any use to you.

  • I go to Briko Depot - one in Calais and Boulougne - they're like B&Q Warehouse (hardly surprising as they are also owned by Kingfisher), but much cheaper, better and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The problem is that the size, and goods stocked by each store can vary - One in Brittany was the best - Calais not so good.

I also doubt they will stock the brand your looking for. Another place in Calais is Briko Man - never been there, but it's opposite City Europe and Leroy Merlin - opposite Sainsburys.
  • Have a look at these on eBay - http://search.ebay.co.uk/varo

or contact the company and ask them for stockests - http://www.varo.be/

Leroy Merlin, next door to Auchan in Calais/Coquelle would be my first stop for that sort of thing.
