Payment for item has bounced

Hi,
I'm in need of some help as I want to make sure that the seller is not left out of pocket due to me!
I bought an item on ebay and paid via paypal. I have my bank account linked to paypal and the funds were in my account at the time, so it was paid for straight away. The direct debit from paypal normally leaves my account 4 or 5 days later and in the meantime I spent some of the money in my account knowing that I'd get expenses paid into my account in the next day or so to cover the paypal direct debit.
Well, my expenses were paid late so the direct debit claimed by paypal was returned unpaid. I have looked on the paypal website to see if they will reclaim the direct debit, and I have checked my backup funding source (credit card) but there has been no activity there.
I'd like to know if paypal will try and reclaim the direct debit or if they will reclaim the money from the seller who then has to ask me for it again.
This happened a few days ago and I've had no contact to advise me of what's going to happen or what I should do.
I have the money in my account all ready to go and I just don't want to leave the seller out of pocket unnecessarily or have anything from paypal that could have a negative effect on my credit rating!
Thanks

I'm guessing it will show up on your credit card shortly... but if not, the seller will no doubt let you know!
I forgot to change from bank funded on a small ebay payment - by the time the direct debit was refused, I'd had the goods. It went from my CC though. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0
