Orange contract

Hi

I'm just looking for some advice.....

I'm currently on an Orange pay monthly contract, the 12th Month is October. I've been looking at different options, but can't decide which is best

Orange currently have an offer on (for new customers only) of free Sony E k750i with 200 mins, 500 free texts for £30 per month. I have already spoken to Orange and they said that even though i'm an 'existing customer' they would probably give me the offer and allow me to keep the number, as O2 are offering the same deal.

Vodafone however are offering the same deal again, but half the price (£15) for the first 3 months. The only snag is that Vodafone would want an 18 month contract from me.

What do i do?? or has anyone found any better deals?? Any help appreciated :j

Cheers

MrB

probably comes down to the little additional details such as:

    - do you like orange, do you get on with the way they do things?
    - do you use / or would you use WAP on the phone - o2 tariff includes 1MB GPRS access, don't think orange's does and not sure on voda
    - would it bother you to be tied into an 18mth contract moreso than a 12mth one? presumably you can't upgrade the handset for a longer period of time on the longer contract? things move fairly quickly in the phone world in terms of handsets and tariffs , what are the restrictions of changing tariff on the voda deal and is it a problem?
    - you can probably get voda's stop the clock offer if it's the 18mth contract - would that be useful enough to you to balance the contract length out?

stuff like that - if all the main features are the same that's what it would end up being for me - details details details...

  • Thanks smcicr

On the Vodafone 18 month contract i wouldn't be able to upgrade my handset until the first 18 months had passed. It would include the stop the clock add on, which i suppose would be useful and the first 3 months is half price hmmm.

I do like Orange though, and i think this is the problem grrrr. I know a few people who work for them, so it may be worth speaking to them to see if they would match other offers.

I have 2 weeks to trawl through their websites to find the best deal, before i need to make a decision. Looks like i'll be sick of reading terms and conditions!

Do you know of any websites that will compare all the network deals in one go??

  • I'm in the same position as my Orange 12 months (same £30 a month as OP) is up right now and I would love to find the best deal available. I went in Carphone Warehouse on Friday just to pick up the brochure and they offered Nokia 6230i with a £100 cheque back after 4 months whilst staying on £30 a month contract. I know Carphone may not be the best place to get a deal from but I was just after ideas of what deals to start from are available before a major search on the net. I too would love to find the best deal option that I can quote back to Orange to see if they would match it.

https://www.onecompare.com offer a comparisson service for various things - it's an offshoot of channel4's website.

sometimes making an arbitrary decision that limits your choices can be useful (seems a bit backwards but you'll be there forever otherwise) for example:

    - it must be a certain make and model of handset
    - there must be 200 x net minutes included
    - there must be x free texts

    and so on.

I will pretty much only buy direct - that's a personal preference as i've heard so many tales of woe about third party billing and nightmares getting hold of anyone to resolve issues etc. Plus, i know that i will somehow manage to forget the cashback dates and times and thus lose out.

So i'd try and narrow down your search a little or you will indeed be very sick of t's and c's ;)

  • Oarnage have given me the following as an existing customer:
500 or 750 XN mins for 29 and 35 pounds respectively plus a free new 'phone (a samsung D500 in my case). A friend has been given the new Sony 800i for free. Contact Orange retentions directly as customer services does not provide this deal.
This has been discussed in a previous forum.

  • I think it's called Orange select 500/750.
