Need some advice for my brother please, he wants to go to the Rangers v Zenit St Petersburg UEFA cup final. He contacted someone on Gumtree about tickets and this is the reply he got. Now i think it looks dodgy, but i would like a second(and third) opinion:D Is he covered by ebay at all? Does he have any comeback if it all goes pearshaped? Sorry about the long post:o Thanks in advance.
Hello,
I have 10 tickets for the Uefa Cup Final Match (Glasgow Rangers vs Zenit St. Petersburg).
The pice is 250 gbp/ticket, seats next to each other in Rangers end.
The deal will be done via eBay like this:
SHIPPING:
Shipping will be done by UPS and the ITEM will arrive in no more than 1 day.
PAYMENT:
eBay will manage the finacial part of our deal. They are acting like a
third party in this deal.
You will have to send the payment to eBay that will hold the money
until you will receive the tickets, inspect them and agree to keep the
tickets.
After you will inspect the tickets, if for some reason you refuse
them, you will get a 100% refund from eBay.
The payment is required by eBay as a guarantee(the money will be held
by eBay) and after the payment is received by eBay the shipping will
be started.
Anyway, if you want more details about this deal, please reply with
the following information's:
-Your full name;
-Your shipping address;
-Your phone #
-The number of tickets that you are interested in.
After i get this details from you i will notify eBay and begin the
transaction, and they will contact you with further informations.
Mail me soon and let me know if you are interested (and I BET YOU ARE!).
Best Regards

I have never heard of ebay holding money for anyone. Definately sounds a little dodgy although don't really know how if you get me. Who exactly would you be sending the money to? Doesn't really make sense. Why aren't they just advertising on Ebay in the regular fashion?
Sounds a bit odd to me.

Looks dodgy to me without going into it too much detail the two things tha stand out to me is:-
Why UPS they should be posted Special Delivery?
EBay and escrow? Although supposedly possible not something I have come across.0 -
My brother has emailed the guy back asking for a link to ebay, dont think he has replied yet?The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

I would not trust them one bit to be honest. Try looking on ebay, or somewhere else. But good luck searching, but i would stay as clear from them as possible.

Ebay do not offer their own escrow service, you will probably be sent a link pretending to be ebay but to a dodgy 3rd party where you can wave goodbye to your money. The escrow services on ebay (look up escrow in the help section) carry no form of guarantee or ebay protection.
They are using the name ebay to sucker people in, this has nothing at all to do with ebay and pesonally I would avoid at all costs unless they allow you to collect the tickets and pay cash.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks guys, you have confirmed my own suspicions. I have emailed my brother the link to this thread, seems he's going to take our advice:D He's never used ebay so doesnt know whats dodgy or not.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

It's almost certainly a scam. My sister was looking for rugby tickets for England v Ireland a couple of months ago and she saw a very similar advert on gumtree and the email she received was almost the same word for word with regard to the buying process. The seller wanted her to send a money transfer to some bloke, an alleged ebay middleman, who'd hold the cash until she was in receipt of the tickets. The seller wasn't very cooperative when i asked for proof that he actually had the tickets
Gumtree, say on their site that this sort of transaction is to be avoided and you should meet with the seller face to face...0 -
Very dodgy i mean even the price is dodgy, the tickets are selling for £1000+ each on ebay! And why dosent he use £ instead of gbp i wouldnt use that, mostly foriegn people that do that. He also uses ebay alot which suggests if you are scammed then its "ebays" fault although it isnt. Stay clear.
I wouldnt touch gumtree with a barge pole there are some dodgy people that go on gumtree. Never agree deals on gumtree!!!
And almost certainly the page may be a fake ebay page that steals all the info on your computer e.g. credit card details. Have had this happen to a friend after trying to "pay" for soemthing he thought he was buying.0 -
Definitely a scam.0
