Missed credit card payment... help!

in Credit cards
Hi guys,
I may or may not be in a bit of a mess - I don't know yet but I'm a bit worried. I am currently trying to take out a mortgage and so obviously I know that my credit rating's important. I have a second meeting about that on Tuesday.
Here's the problem - I recently lost my Barclaycard and had to have it cancelled. Trouble is when they cancelled it it was very close to the due payment date. Now it is cancelled I am unable to make payments by phone or internet - post would have been too slow - and so I've missed the due date.
Will this automatically net me a black mark on my credit rating and if so how likely is it to prevent me from getting a mortgage?
The thing is they didn't tell me I wouldn't be able to pay it off after cancelling it so how was I to know? Can they reverse a black mark if I can get them to admit they should have told me?
Thanks!

I don't understand why you couldn't make the payment?! Do you not get a paper bill?0

Don't understand that part of your post. The card may have been cancelled, but the account is still open!! You can not cancel the account until you have payed back Barclaycard every last penny you owe them.I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another, so please feel free to ignore this.0 -
A direct debit mandate set-up to pay either the minimum or full amount due each month would have prevented any anxiety/worry over this, even if the card was lost. Whether the card is lost, cancelled or defaced, the account is still alive and every penny owed must be repaid.
Barclaycard have an online payment facility which allows you to make payment with your debit card/set up a direct debit. You can view your statement and also in the abscence of your real posted paper statement, make payment online if you are keen on keeping your credit file squeeky clean. Call Barclaycard and explain your situation, someone might listen and be sympathetic about your predicament. It's worth giving it a try though. Goodluck!Money is like a bird.....if mishandled, will simply fly away....0 -
Well believe me I tried to pay it but the system wouldn't let me. Online and over the phone got me no-where as the account was disabled. I just didn't realise they'd disable incoming as well as outgoing payments!
I'll definitely set up a direct debit when the new card comes. Annoyingly it hasn't come yet But I didn't even realise you COULD set up direct debit on credit cards otherwise I would have a long time ago as I always pay it off in full anyway.
So does anyone know how likely this is to stop me getting my mortgage approved?

Have you actually spoken to a human at Barclaycard? It seems unlikely that they'd make it impossible for you to make a payment to your account just because the card is cancelled.0

No I actually spoke to a couple of people and was told that I had to wait until my new card came to make the payment. unbelievable isn't it?0
