Hi...I placed an advert for a steam and vacuum cleaner on eBay and have had a bid for 99p...does this mean that I have to accept this bid if there is no other bid or do I have a right to reject the bid (I dont recall there being an option to set a minimum price when I placed the advert)...is there anything I need to do?
Many thanks!
Many thanks!

You can set whatever lower price you are willing to accept. As you set 99p that is considered your lowest acceptable bid so if it sells for that then you must accept it.
However, many bids come in at the last moment so all is not lost here. However if you don't want to risk it going at 99p you can cancel the bid and end your item and then relist it later with a better start price.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Hi...thanks, so how can I cancel the bid and end the item, I have gone into it but cant find the cancel option?? I made the mistake of not setting a "buy it now" price or reserve price (couldnt see those options when I filled in the form).
Also, I know someone who wants to bid £35 for it but when they entered the maximum bid of £35 on eBay, the bids only increased from £10 to 11.50?? is there a way for them to get straight to £35 so I can consider whether to sell?
Thanks!0 -

I thought you said you'd only had a bid of 99pis there a way for them to get straight to £35 so I can consider whether to sell?
Yes if all you want is £35 than when you relist you can make your auction a Buy It Now, with a price of £35.
I am a little concerned by the statement that you know someone who wants to bid £35, depending on how you know them it may constitute shill bidding.0 -
Hi Pdel61
Thanks. I had an initial bid for 99p when I posted the question yesterday but this morning there was a new bid for £10.
Also, re the £35 comment,as well as eBay, I have told several people about the sale & someone e-mailed me to ask if I would consider £35 and I wanted them to bid for it via eBay but when they tried, it only went up to £11.50, hence the question (not sure what a shill bid is?). Hope that clarifies (apologies for my ignorance, I have used eBay v little over the years).

Shrill bidder is a chum of the seller who puts in false bids to make the price go higher. Much frowned upon by Ebay and Ebayers.

Thanks Terryw, I would never consider that because that is dishonest and runs the risk that no one would bid if the "friends" price is unrealistic so would defeat the purpose of the sale...
I have used eBay plus put the details on my office's noticeboard & told several people about the sale over the past few days, so am only interested in genuine offers..someone asked if I would sell it for £35 so I asked them to enter it as a bid on eBay so as to have all potential buyers on eBay...however when they did, the bids only went up to £11.50 because I think I entered the selling details wrongly in the first place a few days ago (ie as 99p rather than some minimum price) & dont want to get locked in to a much lower price because of the misunderstanding.

I would not worry too much at this stage. Many potential punters just "watch" (check this out) and then bid in the last few minutes. Often this is when the fun starts.
As an aside, if ever you are given a second chance to buy after the auction is over, there is a good chance that the seller has put a shrill or two in! On principal I never accept second chances.
