To & fro - London

My 9year old son has just auditioned succesfully for a role in the West End musical "Billy Elliot".

Welive in Lowestoft, Suffolk and the lthe cost of travelling to and from London rehearsals is starting to mount up.
He is in rehearsals for 2 days, then home for 2-3 days then back again. He opens in the show on the 19th Sept and he will be doing 2-3 nights in a row (we stay at friends in London)

Currently I can get return to London for me and him on the train for £22.00, then another £4.20 for a inner London travelcard.

By car costs £30 petrol then £4.20 travelcard.

Whats this about a British Rail travelcard? Anyone any cheaper ways? Cheap day returns won't work as he will be there for 2-3 days at a time.

I live in Lowestoft too and also travel to London every other weekend. I have 2 children and I use a family railcard. It means that I get a return ticket for £15.00 and the children go for £1 each. The railcard costs £20 to buy but you save that if you travel regularly. You have to book the ticket a week or more before though.

National Express is cheaper, but takes 4-4.5 hours

£15 return (adult + child under 14) with family coachcard (£8).
