Gift of Money

My mother-in-law gave our family £70,000.00 to pay off our mortgage. She is in an old peoples home and wanted to use her money wisely, we are the only remaining relatives. She is now getting low on money, can the social services demand we give it back to pay for her home?

I think it depends on when she gave you the money & when she runs out.

No but some homes need a top up to bridge the gap between thier charges and the amount SS pay and i am sure you would agree that it would be only right to make up the shortfall to continue a good level of care and peace of mind all round.
:D The glass is always half full, no exceptions !!:D

It all depends on how long ago it was, if she gave her money away to avoid having to pay her care home fees herself. There's a lot of information on deliberate Deprivation of Assets on the Age Concern website.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
