second chance offers.

did a quick search but could not come up with the answer.

I had an item listed as an auction on ebay, I now have 2 of this item! So I go through the original sale as normal with the winner of the auction. Can I then offer a second chance offer to the next highest bidder to sell the 2nd item i have? Or is this against ebay rules as I will not have payed listing fees twice and how about final value fees?
if i had known then what i know now

No problem offering a second chance offer and selling more than one item, that's also what SCOs are for.

    Correct.

As for fees, there are no listing fees for 2nd chance offers. However, you will be charged final value fees on the second item. (deducted when/if the 2nd chancer buys)

  • We do second chances all the time. Why pay double the listing fee and decrease the value. Chances are the item will go higher if you list less of them.

We also only offer the second chance for 24 hours. Don't want to stop people bidding on the next listing, waiting to see which one they can get the cheapest. (New listing or second chance).

2CO is great for the seller because you get the second bidder's maximum bid.

    I.e.

Assume 3 people want your item

    Bidder 1 will pay £30
    Bidder 2 will pay £20
    Bidder 3 will pay £10

    Goes to auction
    Sells for £20.25

Bidder 1 now has the item. You can 2CO to bidder 2, and get £20 from them.

Or, put it up for auction again, only bidder 2 + 3left, the item sells for £10.25

In reality of course, there will be new bidders the second time, but if you have got what you consider a good price, or even a good price minus the cost and effort of re-listing, then offer it to the second bidder

do many people get second chance offers accepted? I find only around 1 in 20 accept them. The rest ignore them
