Anyone ever used liondvd.co.uk before?

They seem to have good prices on ex-Disney DVDs but were only set up in 2008. I just wondered whether this is the old adage of "too good to be true"?!

Thanks
Emma

Thanks. That's about as far as I got. I don't think I will trust them. Shame!

  • What can I say...I've been caught out and should of known better. Bought a copy of "Heroes Season 1". Firstly, it's been sent from Chonburi, Thailand (I've got the full address). Next, before opening the shrinkwrap I noticed that it was a region 1 DVD (USA, Canada, etc). This is a website registered with a UK domain name. After removing wrapping the cardboard box is not retail quality and the discs aren't finished as in a UK retail style. Chinese writting appears in several places. Finally, be warned, if you want a original copy of a DVD don't buy it from this website.

Someone wrote that if it the price was to true to believe then it was probably a fake. Due to UK/European pricing policy vs US pricing how is anyone supposed to know what the right price is. When DVD's are first released the can be double the price of what they sell it for 6 months later. Is this an excuse; maybe, but I won't be using this site again and I'll be reporting it to FACT, which? (consumer magazine), and my local police.
  • I bought 3 DVDs from Liondvd 2 weeks ago, they arrived after about a week and all three were clearly not UK release, I thought that they were copies but I have now confirmed that at least 2 of the three are genuine, but they are imports and though they work OK the extras are different. I dont know about you but extras on a DVD are important to me.

One of the three I am unable to confirm if it's real or not, Lion say that it's genuine but I do not know for sure how to check, I looked at lots of pages online and the info about how to check differs on every page.

The DVDs that I bought that were genuine, but imports (so still not what I wanted and probably illegal to sell in the UK) are Lion King (Single Disc Version), and AVP 2, I also bought Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium which does not have a hologram on it and I'm suspicious about it anyway because it does not have a manufacturers name on the back of the cover.

I did go back and read the description and the info on the site, yes it does say that they sell imports and that they may differ in appearance but they never said that the extras would differ, even if the picture and sound are perfect I still would have rather paid double and got the UK versions, sometimes buying cheap just is not worth it!
  • Lion dvd is a total con!! I bough 6 Disney dvds which have all turned out to be fake. I have looked in to this and they are currently being investigated by the copyright bureau. Steer well clear at all costs. Guaranteed dissapointment!!!!

As far as I know, Disney stopped selling Lion King years ago (2004? Not sure), globally, so unless they have really old stock I'd guess they're fakes.

Annoys the heck out of me that Disney have done that though. The only reason I can think of they'd do this is to raise demand so they can rerelease it at full price again. If they hadn't given the US a fancy art book and us a silly little plastic playset, I wouldn't have had to spend time deliberating between importing and only using multi-region, or buying over here, until they'd stopped selling it everywhere.

Curse you, Disney! A hex on you. emot-argh.gif

8 reason why my 'Disney' DVD is a fake.

    1. On the front cover of the DVD the words 'Disc Special Edition' appear in that order, which, in proper English, does not make grammatical sense, clearly an edited version of the proper DVD cover which is meant to say '2 Disc Special Edition', a mistake which would not appear on an official Disney DVD.
    2. The Disney hologram has clearly been tampered with as can be seen by the scratch marks at the bottom right hand corner, suggesting that it was not originally meant to be on this DVD.
    3. The Disney hologram is also placed over the 'THX certified' logo so that it is not visible, indicating that the hologram is not meant to be in that position, another mistake which would not appear on an official Disney DVD.
    4. On the back cover of the DVD the words 'xperience the power...' appear in that order, whereas the correct spelling should be 'experience' which an 'e' at the beginning of the word, an obvious mistake that would not be distributed on an official Disney DVD.
5.The manufacturers name of the underside of the DVD has been removed, something that would not be done by Disney as the manufacturers name would not initially appear on a proper Disney DVD.
    6. The quality of the cover of the DVD and the DVD case are clearly substandard with the cover of the DVD case being given a matt finish whereas an official Disney DVD cover would have a glossy finish.
    7. The ISBN number of 0-7888-4550-0 printed on the back cover of the DVD case, relates to 'The Lion King: 2 Disc Special Edition' which is not what the DVD is advertised as it is not stated to be the '2 Disc Special Edition', nor does it contain 2 DVD's, a mistake that would not be made on an Official Disney DVD.
    8. On the back cover of the DVD the words 'This product (including its soundtrack) is authorised for sale in the U.S.A only' appear, whereas the DVD was not sold in the U.S.A, something that would not be authorised for an official Disney DVD.

  • If you have bought counterfeit dvd's from lion dvd and you used paypal to pay for them log a dispute with paypal if enough people do so they will investigate and freeze the money in their account and refund us the money,
act now if you payed with paypal - get your money back - they are being investigated by the trading standards agency
  • I ordered a DVD which never arrived. Contacted the helpdesk via email, and got back a very rude.arrogant reply. Basically, they can't track their deliveries - and the blame was put on the customer. Very dodgy operation.

Got my money back through PayPal.

I would not recommend this website at all.
