school uniform bargains 2008

My daughter starts school in september  and whilst in town last week i was looking around for bits and pieces for school uniform- i managed to get a pack of short sleeved shirts 2 for a pound non iron & also a pack of long sleeve ones the same- from woolies. Just thought this might help people with school uniforms to buy, even if my daughter doesnt fit into the ones i bought i also bought the next size up because of the price!!
Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!

You can pick up school uniforms in Asda fairly cheap. i.e trousers for £3, pack of 5 polo shirts for around £4 shoes etc.

My son recently changed schools due to a house move, I went to asda and bought cheap trousers, polo shirts, pe kit etc. Then when he started the school I bought him one embroidered jumper for £8 he has 3 others without the embroidery from asda which cost £2 each, these are my back ups incase he gets it dirty and I don't get it washed/dried/ironed in time.

I think i might just pick up a pair of trousers or pack of shirts with each shop for a while if it's that cheap!

Oh and do they trousers in ASDA/Tesco have adjustable waists?
My son is stick thin and has no bum so EVERYTHING falls down even when he wears a belt

That's the problem with most boys- they don't seem to fill their trousers like the girls do!

I have a LO the same, Adams/Mothercare have adjustable waist but on both of these the hems have come down straight away. Matalan have adjustable waist - quite good quality but my best buy was Sainsburys ones from the TU range - bought them last Sept and they are still going strong ! I will be looking there for next years soon .....

my son has the same probelm and trousers with pleats just look horrid, Adams do them with flat fronts and adjustable waists, they look really neat and fit very well, the flat fronted ones work really well as when you have to rush the waist in it does not get big and bulky

as for getting school uniform, I wait until summer as places like Tescos bring out their whole range, I buy loads of polo shirts that will last me the year as stock does get very thin some times
  • things like PE shorts i have struggled to buy at this time of year. i bought 2 pairs, thinking that my son would only lose one pair at a time but no, he put them both in the bag and lost the bag  as they're elasticated, from now on when i see them i'm buying them in the next size up too, so that will probably fit if he loses the others. otherwise it's the really expensive 'national schoolwear shop'

tesco do a 2 pack of gym shorts several times a year -

just wanted to mention to those with first time school children - i would not recommend long sleeve shirts - cuffs get filthy and wet
i buy polo shirts for mine - tescos do a 3 pack for about £2/£3 and when they get marked i just throw them away - the girls where cardigans anyway so they don't get cold arms but its always boiling hot in school - just thought it worth a mention

  • my tesco don't have them in stock except for the back to school period. bah!

my son wore polo shirts at primary but has shirts for high school. the cuffs are always muddy, you're right!

in primary he never took off his jumper because he always lost it, bless him :D
