We're off to a fantastic self-catering cottage in the Blackdown Hills for 2 weeks starting on the 24th September. Party consists of myself, hubby, 3 year old daughter and ageing dog.
We have previously visited Crealy Park (so awful I complained and got an apology/free tickets so we shall try again) and the Donkey Sanctuary.
Any further ideas where to pop out for the day would be great, particularly dog-friendly beaches that are actually sandy (!) or steam-type trains. Free or expensive ideas welcomed.
Thanks.

Can't help with dog-friendly beaches but there are minature steam trains at Beer Pecorama. http://www.peco-uk.com/pecorama.htm
Also trams at Seaton Tramway. http://www.tram.co.uk/0 -
The beaches at Charmouth and Lyme Regis are both sandy and really nice. Dogs can go out of season but I'm not sure about end of September - does that count? Try the website for Charmouth Beach - we took our dogs there in April. You can walk for miles along the beach and take a hammer and chisel to look for fossils.
Cricket St Thomas is supposed to be good. Haven't been there for about 30 years though!0 -
We went to Crealy Devon a few weeks ago and had a lovely time, better than last year.
I recommend Dawlish warren & exmouth beaches but don't think dogs are allowed yet (until after oct).
Paignton zoo excellent but may be a bit of a trek.
Dad lives in Devon and recommends Pennywell Farm (not sure where this is in relation to where you are staying though), as a great time for little ones, he has taken my niece several times.
Have a lovely time.WW Gold Member, trying to maintain !!!Hayden born July 07Tabitha born April 05Poppy born July 030 -
Bicton Park is a fun place for all the family although your daughter may be a bit young for it yet.
