Moles and Nubbins

Dad has just returned from the doctors after going about a suspicious mole-type thing on his back which is scabby/ not healing etc. He gets himself wound up about these things and for better or worse, has always been interested in keeping healthy - by this I mean, sometimes unhealthy obsessions with things like mad cow disease, whether the rash on your foot is a sign of something nmore sinister than nettles which you tread on in bare feet...and so on.

Anyway, he hasn't been sleeping for worying about this. The doctor was unsure so has referred him to a consultant dermatologist I think. He has private insurance but even going private there is no chance of seeing anyone till mid-september. Not too long, but he's even more worried now. He has had cancer scares in the past, prostate, its constantly on his mind:confused:.

Has anyone had any experience of this kind of situation? Is this just a routine referral? I personally think it could be a insect bite gone wrong, its irght on his belt line so I think that could be mithering it. He's a big bloke too which doesn't help.

(on a good note, the doctor went mad when he saw him cos his blood pressure is very high and he has put on more weight after holidays: but, this scared him enough to finally agree to weightwatchers with me:))

I have two unsightly moles on either side of my neck which i'm seriously getting checked. Is your GP the best place to start? Problem is that i'm a University student and as such my doctor is now miles away as i'm home for the summer.

To add to that i'd really like to get them checked ASAP as the left one looks (in my opinion) pretty weird. I've checked out all the local Mole Check centres but i don't have one close to me. Is there anything else i can do rather than wait until October? when i'm assuming getting a doctors appointment will be like obtaining gold dust what with all the new students and 'sickies' as the surgery reopens for the year.

An old thread comes to life again ...

Amyea, contact your local GP surgery / where you were registered before you went to University, and ask to be seen as a temporary patient.

    MEDICAL ADVICE

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this: Sorry, giving or asking for medical advice is not permitted on this forum as it’s not what this site is about. While discussing medical insurance policies, cheaper ways to see consultants, cashback for alternative health treatments and how to get specific medication cheaper (legally) are all perfectly acceptable we ask you specifically not to discuss what to do in the event of certain medical problems (please see this rule on the Health Board). If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.
